Hi

I'm Using a Wrt54G v 1.1, and just updated to v23 SP2. If i disable the Radio (either through the web interface, or using the command line). I don't have a wireless connection anymore, but if i use netstumbler i still see the Network.

I was wondering if this behavior is normal, and if so, if it's any different with a newer WRT.

I want to do this on a WRT54GL, but it's not here at the moment, so i can't test it.

yep, i cannot use wireless anymore, after disabling it, but i see the signal.

i did it under: Wireless Network Mode - disabled

and on the command line:

Code:
~ # wl radio off
~ # wl radio
radio is off (WL_RADIO_SW_DISABLE 1 WL_RADIO_HW_DISABLE 0)

if i get it right, if the radio really is of, it should look like that:

Code:
~ # wl radio off
~ # wl radio
radio is off (WL_RADIO_SW_DISABLE 1 WL_RADIO_HW_DISABLE 1)

Update: tested it with a WRT54GL, and it seems to work there (didn't have my notebook with me, and the one i had to test has a Intel 2100B wlan card, which isn't supported that good in netstumbler. but i'll check with mine asap).

WL_RADIO_HW_DISABLE is still
Code:
WL_RADIO_HW_DISABLE 0)

(Not that i have a problem with it, i just want to have no signal in the air, which seems to work)

I'm still wondering if it's possible to do it with the WRT54G v1.1 maybe it has something to do with the mini-pci card which is used in the early models.
