I have 2 dd-wrt routers each running v24. (both wrt54g) and i want to be able to combine wireless connections so people see one SSID but as people connect the load is evenly distributed between the access points. I also want to be able to plug a ethernet cable from a port in one router and into the internet port of the other but allow connections on both routers to act as a single router. Any help would be great. I have no idea where to start
I assume you run other router as the actual router + WLAN and other you want plain WLAN? Tough you could use them both as WLAN only and have 3rd router, but nevertheless here is something:
Connect the WLAN-only router trough LAN port to that other routers LAN-port. First router you have internet configured as usual, also make note which wireless settings you have.
Then for WLAN-only router, disable internet and DHCP-service, then use exact same wireless settings, exept use diffirent wireless channel.
This is the configuration in nutshell. As for balancing the load, every client has this automatic and usually can't be configured/optimized manually. It is something that is built in to drivers or so, depending on traffic on each channel and power of AP, and such.
Feel free to ask more... And BTW this is perfectly normal and "legal" way to do this, it is specsed at least in G standard as "roaming".
No no, set your Internet as disabled, not router, not anything else. Then disable also whole DHCP server on the second WLAN access point, also connect your routers with LAN-LAN... You can then assign also your WAN port to be LAN port to get one more LAN port.
Also those same instructions seems to be pretty much on the link Blackraven gave. Also I repeat that have every wireless setting same on both routers, exept use diffirent channels, otherwise they just interfere with eachothers. (Best channels would be 1, 6 and 11, as that will give you 3 totally separate channels)

By this statement do you mean hooking the 2 radios together with each other or do you mean that you would like to have wired access available at both radios to hook computers up to ? _________________ http://69.175.13.131:8015 Streaming Week-End Disco. Station Ripper V 1.1 will do.
i want wired access and wireless access. The routers will be sitting on top of each other, i basically want to increase the number of wired ports on my network while the wireless will be seen as one SSID
yes... when you use them as I and the told link suggest, then you get 4 additional LAN ports, if you assing WAN to LAN, otherwise 3 additional ports. The point is to make second router as "dummy" access point, having not routing or any actual processing of data, just "converts" WLAN to LAN and otherwise is basically acting as switch on the side too.
But if possible I'd still put them little away from eachothers if possible to get some "diversity" (don't know proper term in english) for clients.
