I've had my v1.1 forever and found out about dd-wrt after the original firmware started giving me problems. Once updated, I had another 2 years of trouble free usage...but for the last two months, the router will drop my main laptop and sometimes all others. P2P oddly still seem to work even though router no longer responds to ping or http? So out of frustration I decided it was time to upgrade and ordered a brand new WRT54GL...mostly because I bought a pair of those high gain antenna and just think its silly to make routers look like spaceships.
So, you guys think I was too hasty?
I probably should have did some diagnostics or something. Let's see, things to note:
1. Overclocked to 216 Mhz as advised by these forums.
2. DD-WRT v24-sp2 (11/02/09) mini
3. Seem to be getting TX errors (96)?
Primarily use as MAC filter and HW firewall so I don't see why I'd burn it out...I can still cancel the order!!! Come on guys, chime in!!!
Might try a 30/30/30 reset then flash to the latest firmware release for your model, and program ALL settings in by hand; don't use a config backup.
That did wonders for my GL for awhile, but eventually it died a slow painful death similar to what you're describing.
Wireless clients wouldn't stay connected, DHCP was hit or miss, and if any one computer was downloading a file over 300kbps, everyone else's connection went to dial-up speeds.
Oh, and my new silly spaceship router not only looks cool attached to the wall, but outperforms the GS/GL family by miles!
