I have v8 with RC5 running. Is it worth upgrading to latest RC? tx

I would like to know this as well.

I used the files on page one of this thread to install DD-WRT, and it is RC5.

Should I move to RC7? Do I just use the micro generic as well?

I've been running RC 7 for the last 2 days, and one thing I notice is that the error rate on the wireless package sent/received is significantly low, as compared to the rate I got when running RC6

Great software... Here's my issue.

I am currently running:

DD-WRT v24 RC-4 (10/10/07) micro
(SVN revision 8151M)

Looking to updgrade it to:

vxworkskillerGv8-v3

I reset factory defaults, set 192.168.1.100 / 255.255.255.0 and 192.168.1.1 for the wired port 1 computer.

I attempt to upgrade the firmware from (vxworkskillerGv8-v3.bin) within DD-WRT and receive this message:

Upgrade failed

continue...

Anyone know how to upgrade it?

Thanks.

You only need to run killer the very first time you are putting dd-wrt on one of these boxes. You upgrade normally after that, via the web-gui with what ever version of dd-wrt you are trying.

First of all I'd like to thanks to eko for his great job.

Now, my wrt54g v7.2 is running well with dd-wrt v24.
I was wondering if it is possible to install some package on the device, because mine is showing 0.5MB of free memoy.

In fact I'd like to play with airodump. Is that possible with that few free memory?

Thanks

I just got my Linksys WRT54GS V7.2 working on the first try. it has the Eos chip. The DD-WRT v24 RC-4 (09/24/07) micro - build 8031 firmware is working good.

Thanks again

Hey, I have a quick question. I searched the forums with no avail.

I'm using m y WRT54GS v7.2 as a WAP. Right now I have the Wireless setup set to "Client".

It works fine to those wired connections on my LAN.

However, if I switch to "Repeater", it does not acquire the IP address using DHCP. I have tried to manually configure "unbridged" and used "bridged" neither seem to work.

The Router I'm connecting to is a Belkin, not sure what the model number is. The IP is 192.168.2.1 and DHCP is 192.168.2.2/255 Netmask: 255.255.255.0..

So my Linksys is 192.168.1.1 Netmask: 255.255.0.0

EDIT: May help to know what I'm running.
nvxworkskillerGSv7-v3.bin
dd-wrt.v24_micro_wrt54gv8.bin
Is what I have installed.

Here are some screenshots to give you a better idea.

Do you have specified reason to upgrade to v24-RC4 (quite buggy revision)?

Try to reset box again and flash up by normal way described here in text files:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/down.php?path=downloads%2Fstable%2Fdd-wrt.v24%2FBroadcom%2FLinksys%2FWRT54G_v8%2FVXWorks+Killer+WRT54Gv8/

and try to use v24 Final (see in upper dir by same link)

Hi. i read all 74 pages of this thread and i didn't want to make it longer by asking something i could find already solved. but im new here and i wanna be sure that i do the right.

I have a WRT54G V8 with the following:
*BROADCOM BCM 5354KFBG
*SAMSUNG 801 K4S641632K-UC75
*SAMSUNG 801 K8D1716UBC-PI07

1) do i follow the instructions in the first page?
2) should i use the "vxworkskillerGv8-v3.bin" that is in downloads/others/tornado/Gv8?
3) what version of DD-WRT should i use, and where do i download it from?

Thanks in advance, hope i can have dd-wrt running on my v8 soon.

If you already have DD-WRT on a router, then killer is not needed, it is only used the very first time you install DD-WRT to a router!

For the Gv8, you use the MICRO version in the download section under broadcom. It really is best to reset to defaults before and after an upgrade, I rarely do a hard reset, but always a reset to defaults via the Web GUI.

I don't have DD-WRT yet.
Sorry buy i still don't know what image should i download for my router (WRT54G v8 with samsung flash).

In /downloads/stable/dd-wrt.v24/Broadcom/Linksys/WRT54G_v8 i see:
dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin
dd-wrt.v24_micro_olsrd_generic.bin
dd-wrt.v24_micro_olsrd_we800g.bin
dd-wrt.v24_micro_olsrd_wr850g.bin
dd-wrt.v24_micro_olsrd_WRH54G.bin
dd-wrt.v24_micro_we800g.bin
dd-wrt.v24_micro_wr850g.bin
dd-wrt.v24_micro_WRH54G.bin

What is the appropriate image for mine?

I know i have to reset to defaults and cleaning my browsers cache. any other recommendation before i do it?

Thanks Tornado for the quick answer!

@nacho

Here are basic instructions for upgrade to DD-WRT: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/How_To_Flash_the_WRT54Gv8

As it says in there, you want to use dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin

I'm following this instructions to flash my WRT54G v8 for the first time: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/How_To_Flash_the_WRT54Gv8
The problem is when i get to step 5, i browse for the "vxworkskillerGv8-v3.bin" and hit "apply". after 2 minutes nothing seems to be done, the router doesn't reboot on its own, the power led stays ON all the time and i get to ping 192.168.1.1 (it is suposed to time out a ping). i also can access to the Linksys GUI so i'm sure i'm not flashing the vxworkskillerGv8-v3.bin properly.

I tried doing the same things 4 times and i get the same result, i didn't wanna try other things before asking in case i brick it.
Any ideas?

Thanx

Forget the part about the power light being off. That may not be correct.

Anyways, after uploading vxworkskiller via Management Mode, and waiting a couple minutes, go ahead and tftp the micro_generic.bin file.

Wait a couple minutes after completion. At this point I normally close and reopen my browser (IE) just to make sure I get a fresh start. Browse to 192.168.1.1 and see if DD-WRT Control Panel is there. If it is I would do a 30-30-30-Hard Reset at this time to make sure everything is cleared out as best as can be.

Browse back to 192.168.1.1 and have at it.

All should go well. Just did one, no problems here.

I assure you the power light info is correct, and it almost sounds like he need to clear his browser cache and cookies
