it was flying until it got to 37%...now...its as slow as the first time i did it...
ill leave it there...i need to go a run some errands..ill let you know what happens...
thanks!
OK...but what has probably happened is that the communication link between tjtag and the flash chip is broken now. At that 37% mark...data is probably being corrupted now. (just from my 26 hours of experience)
keep trying...it is possible on these V8 boxes...but it is very time consuming....just don't give up.

i couldnt even get an ethernet link to the router...
still the 1,2,3,4, Internet LEDS are steady ON and it looks like the utp cable is disconnected but its not...
any ideas? _________________ WRT54GS v2.1 > v24-sp2 (01/01/09) mega

Do a wholeflash erase 3 times.
Then flash a good working cfe use this one.

Before you do this get your jtag cable as short as possible under 6 inches long. You might want to try this on a different computer if you can.

hey
thanks for all the support given
i just flashed the CFE that you gave me on the link above. here is the final command output after running tjtagv2 -flash:cfe /noemw /bypass. i did also erased wholeflash 3 times.
since im able to get to this point, i believe the jtag cable is OK...
after this got done, i waited for a minute and then turned the router off.i plugged the jtag cable off and when i turned the router back on, i still get LEDS 1-2-3-4-INTERNET steady ON. And, when i connect the UTP cable between my pc and the router, theres no link activity on the ethernet interface (windows says the network cable is disconnected and of course its not)
any thought that maybe could help me with this?
It sounds like the CFE is being corrupted as it is written, as redhawk suggested. Maybe you could try a compressed CFE (I'm sure redhawk has one), and improve your odds of success since you only have to flash half the amount of data. _________________ WRT54G v3 - v24 r14471M NEWD Eko - AP

flashing isnt taking that much time...it runs very smoothly and you can see it only takes around 178 seconds...
where can i get the compressed cfe youre talking about? tried to look at downloads section but couldnt find anything than the cfe
more info. i just downloaded a program that compare hex files and the cfe that i just flashed is completly different than the one i backed up after flashing. they should be the same. you guys are right: the cfe on the router gets corrupted while flashing _________________ WRT54GS v2.1 > v24-sp2 (01/01/09) mega

hello again
while i wait for redhawk response, i wanna show you something weird...
i tried to flash the tornado's cfe using this command
Code:
tjtagv2 -flash:cfe /nocwd /noreset
note that i didnt use the /bypass command at all. flash process goes ok but incredibly damn slow. i barely got to 8% after 5 hours...also (this happens all the time with tjtagv2) my cpu works at full capacity which makes it very noisy...
i gave up around 8%...so i stopped the process and made a backup of that 8% flashed...i compared it to the original tornado's cfe and both were identical on that part!!!
i decided to give it a try again and used
Code:
tjtagv2 -flash:cfe /nocwd /noreset /bypass
process went really fast and finished with this
Code:
Done (CFE.BIN loaded into Flash Memory OK))=ffffffff
did the same thing...backup and compare...and the backup'd cfe was full of 'F'......
im just thoughtless.... _________________ WRT54GS v2.1 > v24-sp2 (01/01/09) mega

thans for the cfe. i will give it a try tonight!
good shes learning how to drive so she can drive you whenever you need to! lol
back to business...have you tried flasing the cfe without the /bypass parameter? what do you get as a result when backing up the stored cfe?
i also rechecked the jtag cable and only connected GND from paralell to jtag pin 6. i also set my paralell as ECP.
its been almost 2 hours and the 256 cfe is barely at 15% flash without /bypass (this is the only way data dont get corrupted when im flashing it but its soooo damn slow). with the /bypass ON flash will take only a few minutes but all data stored in flash will be FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF....
i will probably give up with this 256 cfe...so i will test your 128 tonight and let you know anything.
v8 sucks ! lol
thanks again _________________ WRT54GS v2.1 > v24-sp2 (01/01/09) mega

just flashed the 256kb cfe (without the /bypass)...didnt work at all...now i got 0000000000000 in the stored cfe...
this is sooo frustrating...
will try with the 128kb cfe and see what happens.... _________________ WRT54GS v2.1 > v24-sp2 (01/01/09) mega

At this point it's either the jtag cable or your computer. Check those soldering points again on the router itself and the jtag cable.

thanks for the reply...i will test this in a different computer and will recheck the soldering points..
i also tried the 128k cfe and after flashing with /bypass mode and read the stored cfe i only get FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF......same happened when flashing the 256kb cfe with and without bypass....
im using the unbuffered jtag cable and i have some doubts about the pinouts..
tha openwrt wiki says to ground all even jtag pinouts...i believe redhawk only uses pin 6 as ground...
i dunno if that could cause the flash not to work...

i think i just got to a dead end...
I use only pin 6.... but all even (except 12) are shorted together on my cable...and....
If you ohm out the JTAG port on the unit..you will find that 2,4,6,8,10 are all shorted together also...so pulling a ground from any one of those pins will work.
keep at it....its the V8 unit that is causing this...not your cable or computer.
These V8's are horrible devices for JTAGing. I have 26 hours into mine now (didn't get back to it yesterday)...but I'll be working on it again this week.
The V8s are the only ones that cause such grief (at least for me)....I may try changing resistors for the JTAG this week too. (on the mobo)...just to see what will happen.

thanks for the reply. i will really appreciate if you give me a heads up when you find anything relevant with this.
i was wondering if theres any chance to flash specific memory groups of the cfe...i thought about this since flashing only 5% or 10% of the cfe will correctly store data on flash... _________________ WRT54GS v2.1 > v24-sp2 (01/01/09) mega
