WRT54Gv4 wont work with WRE54G

I have a wireless range expander WRE54G trying to work with a WRT54Gv4 running DD-WRT v23.

I could get the WRE to recognize the WRT and connect to the range expander from my computer, but after I do so I can't ping the router or access the internet, only access the range expander. I have added the MAC address of the range expander to the WDS menu in the router and tried Lazy WDS on or off, same thing either way.

Any ideas?

have you disable the security ? do you give the right gateway for your WRE ?

All security is disabled, I have a WRT54Gv4 which is supposed to work, I believe.
