There are two antennas, one internal (the soldered lead, a small separate board) and one external. There are three screws hidden under the silver trim ring, the ring simply pulls off with a bit of prying. Here are the first 3 images to aid in disassembly.

Finally, a close up of the antenna lead and the internal antenna, plus a pic of my lame network closet where the MI424-WR resides.

I too won an ebay auction but have not yet received any information from the seller regarding how to pay them. Been sitting for two weeks now, 3 messages sent with no response. Bleh. Was hoping to have gotten my hands on it and get it redirected to DE by now.

At this point I am trying for another one. I hope none of us are bidding against each other! :D

Just spotted this after a brief google search, the Actiontech source has been released. http://opensource.actiontec.com/

Yes, I found the news of this on the OpenWRT forums.

Excellent find! Released on the 9th of February, it appears.

I've heard that BS just received an MI424WR today as well, so excellent timing that.

p.s. Pow - could you release your photos as a Creative Commons license such as CC-BY or CC-BY-SA so they can be included in Wikipedia for the Actiontec router and Verizon FiOS pages?

Done! Just to make sure it was clear I added the license info to the image descriptions themselves, all except my network closet pic. Who would want to re-use that anyway?

hehe, maybe someone would want to show an example of how not to organize a network closet? or, what most network closets look like, even though we wish it were otherwise. :D

However, yes, thanks for that! You can see the gallery on Wikipedia here.

Off topic but POW is that a bathroom ventilation fan in your closet? You venting your network and router farts so you don't have to smell them or something? Laughing

The routers don't smell, but when the family cats use the litterbox in the next room I think about relocating the vent fan!

Right now I only have the one computer (Dell desktop visible under the UPS and LCD) and a few switches/routers running. Not a whole lot of processing happening on the Dell right now, which is mainly used as a fileserver. Earlier when I had a process running that had the CPU pegged 100% (a stupidly inefficient piece of software) the closet was getting pretty warm. I installed the vent fan to push the heat outside, drawing in the naturally cooler air from the basement this resides in. Right now I have the fan turned off and the doors open to instead let the heat warm up the basement. It's pretty cool down there right now... should fire up that process again or do some folding or something.
