I personally would follow the wiki... as once you have flashed to dd-wrt you will be able to flash any other dd-wrt firmware for this model (except mini - which doesn't carry the 'n' drivers needed for the 600n)

So are you saying, once I complete the steps in the wiki, then I should use dd-wrt.v24_mega_generic.bin under "Downloads › others › eko › BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2 › 03-24-10-r14144 › broadcom"? I am figuring mega because the router has the memory, so might as well have all the features, right?

can't help you with origional firmware, i bought mine specifically for dd-wrt and threw everythig else out a long time ago...

So you threw your disk out that you mentioned?

@tkoyn - no point chasing after the 1.01.35 build 5 when Dark_Shadow has the 1.01.36 build 4 ready for you. And no need to start new posts either (thread), you'll just end up making the mods merge/delete the thread.

From what I read in your post here, you can easily run the mini instead of the mega build - I'm using the mini without making my router crippled.

About the installation of dd-wrt, once you used the trailed build and got dd-wrt running, you can use the generic builds, no problem - just stay clear of K26 and micro builds.

About wireless settings, there are already tons of posts about this, even in this very thread, but Blazian had some settings that you can start with:

Quote:
I use channel 60 for the 5Ghz band and I select upper channel, but all of the setting are the same below after that. For the 2.4Ghz band.
First you should have your wireless channel on 1,6, or 11 (I use channel 11, and your security should be either WPA-AES or WPA2-AES, also you can turn your ACK timing = 0. Here are some other settings for the Advanced Wireless settings you can try:

CTS Protection mode=Enabled (on bands using N)
Frame Burst=Disabled
Beacon Interval=50
Preamble=Auto
TX power=(28mw 2.4Ghz and 71mw 5Ghz band)
Afterburner=Disabled
WMM Support=Disabled (Enable if can't connect with N radio)
Bluetooth Coexistence=Enabled (I have PS3, u don't have to turn this on 2.4Ghz Band only)

Now go to Administration Tab and change these settings:
IP Filtering Settings
Max ports=4096
TCP and UDP Timeouts to 90

But in the end, just use this as reference and go from there - one setting might work for me, but will ruin it for you - just try =)

PS! In my signature I've a link to a thread where info about the 600 is collected.

I had noted that 1.01.36 build 4 is on the official website, but they say its for v1.0 of the router. I have v1.1 and a linksys tech support rep said my current Ver.1.01.35 build 5 is right for 1.1, so I wanted that version. Does Dark_shadow (or anyone else) know the linksys rep to be wrong, and can I use 1.01.36 build 4 on v1.1 hardware if I were to revert?

yep! NEWD-2 for latest wireless drivers... you wouldn't use this for an initial flash though, need a trailed build for that Smile

Oh ok, right now its currently at v24-sp2 (02/28/09) mega (SVN revision 11697), so it's a bit out of date heh.
Would I need to go through any steps to update it aside from just applying it? It's been a while since I updated my firmware, and I sure as hell don't want to brick it lol.
