I tried several builds from the ftp link and none worked through the web interface or tftp. I could be using the wrong one for my device maybe? let me know what you guys think. thanks
it pulls it via tftp with the proper name but does not apply and i'm not sure why. It also will not do the firmware through the web interface.
ok so until i logged in to the board and posted the File attachements you guys did to the board did not show up. Seems it was hidden or something. so I was following the wrong links. I'll try and flash with the firmware via tftp when I can and update. Pretty sure that was the problem. Thanks!
I was a little bit apprehensive, as I was doing it for the very first time in my life, but everything worked just fine, without any tftp voodoo, just uploading the files directly from the webui.
Thanks everyone for all the great info in this thread!
Now, same wish as cherokeesix's - a version with OpenVPN in it anyone?
If anyone is interested - after unbricking my router (using TFTP method), I finally succeeded in flashing it with some Chinese version of OpenWRT made for it (downloaded from here). Didn't have time to play with it anymore, but for the moment it nicely runs on OpenWrt Barrier Breaker 14.07 / LuCI Branch (0.12+git-15.037.36195-f1e2a26).

Hi all,
I have a WR802Nv1 with Chinese version and these last days I passed some time trying to upgrade my route to the US version or OpenWrt version. Try through the router web page, I can upgrade all the Chinese versions available on TP-Link web page, but all the rest, I always got Error code: 18005. Through tftp, I am doing all the steps described in this forum, but I could not ever saw the router connect on my server. No logs printed on log viewer.

Did you set your PC's IP address as noted in sisu13's post and follow the example in the video(s) linked in earlier posts? I would expect that if you got tftp to work you would see something like hesst posted earlier in your server log, showing what the filename should be:

Hello everybody,
there for the great "Netgear PR2000 Travel Router" Unfortunately no DD-WRT firmware. I have therefore now also the TP-Link Model TL-WR802N "Ver 1.0" bought me. There is indeed a DD-WRT firmware, right?
The WR802N is super small and light, so really a great way to be to travel with. Sorry but you have to run again to the configuration menu and the setup in HotSpot mode with any WiFi-AC. The WR802N does not remember that he was ever connected with a HotSpot Access Point etc.. Also, I have found no way the PR2000 save WiFi profiles so that the same WR802N always automatically connects to a WiFi network, where he had ever logged.
Can the DD-WRT firmware for WR802N?
So I am keen to purchase a TL-WR802N here in the UK. Just a few questions based around DD-WRT.
1. I understand that I must flash a TL-WR841ND v9 DD-WRT firmware in order to get DD-WRT fully working on the TL-WR802N?
2. Someone mentioned that the device then reports as a TL-WR841ND v9. Is this just in the web gui?
3. The TL-WR841ND v9 has a USB port. So when the TL-WR841ND v9 DD-WRT firmware is flashed onto the TL-WR802N, are these USB settings present or not in the web gui?
I also have a couple of Chinese version WR802N, that I cannot flash with English firmware in any way.
Tried the FTP with mentioned IP and port settings - no success.
Any other idea?
Somewhere a tool to modify the firmware file header was mentioned. Could this work?
Hello.
So, is this firmware in chinese ? Are you able to translate it and/or make also a video to show what optionsthis firmware includes ?
Thanks in advance.
Just wanted to say thanks Kryptex! Just got my WR802N from Amazon, it was a V1, "3.16.9 Build 151022 Rel.39085n".
Flashing it was simple:
1) Downloaded Kryptex (post #4 in this thread) "DD-WRT_29218_WR802Nv1.zip" and extracted.
2) Did a web flash on stock TPLink firmware, of the file "factory-to-ddwrt_29218_WR802Nv1-US.bin"
3) Waited 5 minutes and did a power off reboot.
4) Downloaded and flashed the latest DDWRT in Betas -> 2016 -> xxx -> tplink_tl-wr841ndv9 -> tl-wr841nd-webflash.bin . Using 09-22-2016-r30681 currently.
Took about 5 minutes to do the whole thing (because I waited a while after initial flash to do a reboot, which was needed before it became responsive again). _________________ Ps = (1.5 x 6 x .75) / {(4/3) (pi) [(31.039 x 10^15) (46.5 x 10^9)]^3}
Seems like a waste..

I've got an EU version of the WR802Nv1 and I used your guide as a base.
1) same
2) same but I used the "factory-to-ddwrt_29218_WR802Nv1.bin" file (for non US)
3) same
4) As my laptop didn't get any IP and the light of the router went from Green to off I thought it was bricked. As it turns out the WR802N wasn't broken because after a couple of minutes a DDWRT network would come up. After connecting and changing passwords, I flashed the router through wifi as the lan/wan wasn't working (careful!) with the latest beta (11-14-2016-r30880). Then I changed the Operation mode to get the DHCP working again. After connecting the laptop with an utp cable the green light will start flashing again.
After that I succesfully converted my WR802N to DDWRT.
