I just wanted to share my good experiences with this great value for money device.

I have this device running since DEC-2014 replacing one of my old APs. (not heavily stressed around 10 devices at a time)

I am only using it as an AP not as a router!

I wish we have DD-WRT for this.

I have physically dropped this router from 3.5 meters to concrete. while the antennas open. I have mo damage at all other then some scratches. the antenna popped out of its socket and i just pushed it in.

2.4GHz coverage is great, compared to many other devices I have tested in the same spot.

5.0Ghz coverage is not as good as my ASUS RT-AC68U but better than many others again.

I have no dropouts that i can recall or notice.

Sadly I use chrome translate to do any settings. there is an English companion app for the PC and i guess Android. (but why would you need a separate software when you can do it on the web interface DUH..)

Hi all,

any news on this router getting dd-wrt? I've received it yesterday and had a chance to play with it. I have ssh access etc., planning on using it as a client repeater. DD-WRT would be perfect for this case, sadly it's not in the list of supported devices and there's no much hope it will be as I understand it's for China market only. Although it would be very good to see someone porting dd-wrt to this super cheap router!

I don't think they are working on it...
Oficial firmware has been updated and it's really good, much improved. Try the new version, 2.2.5.

If you need custom firmware, OpenWRT is finalising Chaos Chalmer and the MiWifi Mini is included: http://downloads.openwrt.org/chaos_calmer/15.05-rc2/ramips/mt7620/openwrt-15.05-rc2-ramips-mt7620-xiaomi-miwifi-mini-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin

This is the RC2... soon we will have a stable version.

From what I heard xiaomi's firmware redirects 404 and DNS errors/nxdomain to its navigation page, who knows what they do with your browsing hisotry

Indeed, i can confirm with the latest firmware version you get Chinese 404 error page forwarded to their server.

I found this awesome post with A LOT of technical info about this, it seems they wanted to deliver ads, well at least that is what THEY CLAIM it is, but a more deep tech analysis reveled that they might be stealing our users/passwords.

http://translate.wooyun.io/2015/07/06/A-Review-of-the-Incident-on-Xiaomi-Routers-Hijacking-Users-Browser.html

This is VERY VERY dangerous, Xiaomi is starting to fell to the ground for me... this is complete NO GO for me....

I also found that you can install their phone app and SUPPOSEDLY turn off that damn feature.

Ill give this a try and report back if succeeded...

I got it to work! I could disable it!!

On the MI forums one guy posted a question on HOW to disable this 404 redirects, one guy replied:

Quote:
The only cause of 404 redirection is only when I activate the ad-blocker. We can see this feature on MiWifi official app.

So i tried to do it but when i try to ADD this green umbrella thing it gave me an error, couldn't install it.

So this is what i did:

1.- Install the developer firmware version
---> Dont know if its necessary or not, you can try the STABLE (normal) firmware
GUIDE: http://forum.miui.co.in/forum/mi-devices/mi-accessories-reviews-guides/2842-guide-how-to-flash-mi-wifi-router-mini-with-developer-or-stable-rom
2.- Install the Android APP to the phone
3.- Create MI ACCOUNT
4.- Pair mi Router with the APP
5.- Connected a FAT32 2GB USB Flash Drive to the USB Port in the back of the router
6.- in the android app, went to FILES SECTION and it took a while, it was scanning my USB DRIVE, i thought it couldn't read it or something but it turns out the Router INSTALLS a mini folder structure into the USB, so give this a couple of minutes.
--> Once the section FILES refreshes and you can see folders and files that MiWifi mini just created
7.- go to PLUGINS section and ADD the green umbrella thingy
8.- Once installed open it and turn it off by tapping the blue switch.!!

I wouldn't mind using this one for a travel router.
Does this mean DD-WRT still run fine on it except no cabled WAN port working? Or is WAN broken altogether? (to use for Wifi repeater mode)

After trying out the released 15.05 Chaos Chalmer, I went back to the PandoraBox load for this router. Seems to work better for me.

Would still much prefer a dd-wrt if possible. Anyone trying it with dd-wrt?
