If it's version 1, it is supported.

Great to see this device supported. I have one running factory firmware. Which image do I use at the ftp link above? I assume we just load the firmware through the web interface.

thanks

factory-to-DDWRT.bin for the initial flash. Not sure about the upgrade process since I don't have one.

The image doesn't work since it's still trying to use the 3600's drivers for the embedded switch. None of the ethernet ports work at all, wireless only.

The reason: The 3600 uses the atheros AR8327N for the gigabit switching. The 3500 uses the SoC AR9344 for the ethernet switching capability. Might be able to snipe the code from the wr841n v8 that also uses the same chip series (9341, everything I've found shows compatibility) for Ethernet switching and get it to work.

If someone with a working build environment wants to make that patch, the whole 3500 should be working just fine! I don't have the time available to commit right now to figure out how to get the build env working or I would do it myself.

Can you provide instructions on how to install this? flash the factory-to-ddwrt.bin via the factory web interface first? Then is there a new web interface to flash the webflash bin?

Just wondering how involved this is...
Thanks!

Just an update, I purchased a WDR3500 V. 1.2 that works fine as well. I have seen a lot of people posting their v 1.0 working so I just wanted to clarify that the most recent 1.2 version works terrific too! 128mb RAM and 8MB flash for $36 cant be beat for cost/performance. =)

Sorry, I didn't see this post and it's been a few months.

The install is really simple. Just go to the TP-Link update firmware page, and upload the factory-to-ddwrt.bin. That's it. It rebooted a couple of times and came up on it's own. No troubles at all.

Note: I haven't tried any of the newer betas than the one I quoted using. I'll get around to updating when I've got time for a network outage.

PostPosted: Sun Aug 31, 2014 20:44    Post subject: Can't increase tx power beoyond 19db (79mW) regardless - Reply with quote
Hello,

Running DD-WRT build 22461 on a TP Link TL-WDR3500 and I'm trying to increase the TX power on ath0 for use at the cottage.

I chose the WDR3500 because of its relatively cheap price and USB power for use the an internet stick.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to set the tx power to > 19dB (79mW) regardless of regulatory domain.

Bolivia with a max dBm of 30 does not work. Neither does Canada with a listed max of 30, 36 is via the wiki.

See the following:

Code:
iw reg set BO
wconfig ath0 txpower 100mW
or
wconfig ath0 txpower 27dB
iwlist txpower
...
ath0      unknown transmit-power information.
Current Tx-Power=19 dBm       (79 mW)

Setting the tx power via wconfig does work, I'm able to change it to anything under 19dBm in units of dBm or mW.

My expensive Asus N66U can set 27dB / 501mW with ease, no telnet required but they're $150+taxes each.

I am already on dd-wrt and want to upgrade to the newest version but when I apply the webflash file it says upgrade failed. This is going from r24461 to r24988.
