I've successfully flash my newly bought wl-520gu.

My first major problem is that wireless transmission isn't working at all. My status page says radio is off. If I ssh into my wl-520gu and do "wl radio on", I get this error message:

wl:radio on ->wl driver adapter not found

So far i've tried firmware:

dd-wrt.v24-9333_NEWD_nokaid_usb.bin
and
dd-wrt.v24-9396_NEWD_nokaid_usb.bin

What's causing this?

Hi EKO,

When I telnet my WL-520GU router using the command: nvram show | grep vlan

part of the results show:

vlan0ports=1 2 3 4 5*
vlan1ports=0 5

I have never had a WAN issue, all of the plugs work as labeled, and everything appears to be working great. Currently using the 9433 RC7 Asus generic nokaid firmware. Is it possible there are hardware differences between the 520GU units?

I have been having a problem with Tomato receiving WAN info and that's what started me looking at the vlan1's. After numerous attempts, I have never been able to receive WAN info with Tomato's 1.19 NB and the 520GU. Don't know what's up with that and can find no info either.

Thanks for your hard work!

Just curious if the USB issues with this router have been worked out yet. Anyone know?

The problem is that usb modules are not good for 5354 cpu. When we find needed patches, we will fix this.

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you know if someone is actively working on it? How can I know when it's ready (or ready to be tested)?

What is the status of this? I've been having trouble with USB printing, sometimes it will just reboot, sometimes the printer will start but not get all the data and hang, and sometimes on rare occasion it will print.

see http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=171232#171232

What is necessary to get this working? Do the open-wrt guys have it working? Does the ASUS firmware use linux?

IMO, I don't think it is a DD-WRT problem. Even with the Asus firmware, the printing function was flakey with a couple of different printers. I am not sure the router is a great print server with any firmware and that is too bad. This would be the ideal platform if everything worked correctly. Certainly can't beat the price. If the USB ever gets figured out (works more like a plug and play device), this could one of the best bang for buck routers out there.

It's working better now with usb-ohci but eventually it will produce an error message from dmesg.

"usb-ohci.c: OHCI Unrecoverable Error"

A reboot fixes it but obviously this won't work permanently. Anyone have any success?

Hi! Just wondering what the current status of USB support is ? I looked at the wiki for 520GU and it seems to be fine over there..

Can I add a USB hub w/ printer, external HDD and a USB pen drive ?

Hi Eko. The SPN versions seem to have ehci_usb. Are the NEWD versions containing ohci then ? Thanks!

FYI, I did the following:

1. I took my new WL-520GU out of the box.
2. I hooked it up to make sure it worked.
3. I went to ASUS web site to get their latest "Firmware Restoration" utility (windows gui).
4. I powered on the unit holding the restoration button in with a pen.
5. I flashed the router with dd-wrt.v24_vpn_generic.bin (the july SP1 version).
6. Rebooted the router.

I am now having fun setting it up as a VPN server! Sweet!

The only thing to note is that I had to tell the Asus resto prog to keep flashing since it kept popping up a window that it couldn't find any devices to flash. Eventually it found it though....probably just a power up or detection delay...or vista getting in the way...

Edit: Tested the wireless, port forwarding, etc and all work so far.

You may want to update the firmware to a more recent version. There is a bug with SP1, look in the Peacock Sticky Thread for more info.

You did your homework...you shared your results.
