I want to shift my network from ch3 (stable but crowded) to ch11 (empty but unstable), but neither of my routers are making this as easy as you would expect.

No special connections are setup, just bog standard wifi AP using wpa2-aes and all advanced wifi settings are default.

I have tested this on 2 different routers, using many different builds.

Router 1 - wrt54gs v6, Brainslayer micro builds:
r14929
r23838
r23919
r24118
r24160

Router 2 - wrt54g v1.1, Brainslayer micro builds
r14929
r23838
r23919
r24118
r24160

I have also tried this on a DIR-615 (using the same releases) with similar problems, but as it's an atheros device I wont go into much detail.

With both WRT devices the SSID will be visible for between 5 to 45 seconds before it drops out and doesn't return. Any wifi connection made will drop out, wired connectivity is still available and working.

Using a wifi scanning app on my phone i can see the network disappear.

On the DIR-615 the only difference is that wifi network will dropout then return, then dropout and return ad so on,
This can also be seen on a wifi scanning app.

Any help would be awesome.

Wifi networks in my area.

What catches my eye is that your phone does not show 11 along the bottom.

What Region is your gear set for?

It is there, that's how I can see the ssid on ch11 for a short time.
The same thing is seen using inSSIDer on my laptop.

NVRAM on the routers show as "worldwide", I am in the UK.

I did some poking and prodding at the internet, and came up with this:

and this:

I suspect there are some limitations within your router hardware chipset that come into play. But I will admit, I am at or beyond my hemisphere of expertise.

Hopefully someone from your side of the planet can chip in with some region specific suggestions.

If nothing else: Try Ch 12 and see if things connect and stay locked in.

Good luck.
