I am trying to make this router a wireless bridge to connect my HTPC stuff wirelessly to my computer room without having to buy several ethernet wireless adapters for everything.
I get to step 5 on setting my PC's static IP address but I can't log on the router.
I reset the router a couple of times and even my PC's Static IP address back to dhcp (Auto-detect). and I still can't log into the router.
Now, my router's power light doesn't light up. My nubers 1 through 4 light up though.
If I unplug the cables from the router and plug the router in with nothing connected except power then the 1 through 4 and the wireless icon light up, but for only one second and then all the lights are off.
I have no modem plugged into the router. If I plug in my PC's ethernet wire the port number lights up, but it's the only light on the router that's lit up.
Did my router die? I tried the 30/30/30 reset as suggested by the linksys forums, but things haven't changed.
I initially was able to log on the router before going through the tutorial. I even reset it once and it it still was working.
is not dead, just bricked, you can recover it using tftp2.exe tool.
first set computer to a static ip, then open the tool and put there http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/tornado/GSv7/vxworksrevert-GSv7-v3.bin and retry 99, and plug/unplug the power in your router more or less exactly when tftp2.exe start to/retry flash, and then it will flash your router, wait until finish and your router will be alive again in management mode.

I ran through the steps and now I get a management interface that wants me to flash my firmware only. I tried the stock v7 and the dd-dwt from the link in my first post. But they both failed.
also, now I get the power light flashing on/off steadily now. Doesn't seem to want to stay on, if that means anything.
flashing power light means router is alive and is just wating for you to flash something, so you can do one of this options.
Option 1 (with Linksys Firmware):
1 - download Linksys Firmware for your router http://downloads.linksysbycisco.com/downloads/firmware/FW_WRT54G2V1_1.0.04.005_US,0.bin
2 - set static ip (ethernet address to 192.168.1.100, subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.1).
3 - open http://192.168.1.1 in your browser, and you should see Management Mode, select "FW_WRT54G2V1_1.0.04.005_US,0.bin" and flash (wait for at least 5 or 7 minutes).
4 - now unplug power cord for 30 seconds and then plug it back.
I tried to flash the VxWorksKiller-G2V1-new.bin and after about 15 seconds it reports upgrade fail.
Same as it was doing before.
I even did the 30/30/30 before I even started for precautionary purposes.
I'm currently waiting the 5-7 minutes in hopes it flashed anyway.
While I'm waiting. I remembered that my static IP address settings were blank for the dns server. Should that be set to 192.168.1.1 for at least primary? Or should it be left blank.
My modem is still not connected if that matters.
My cable modem is a Motorola Surfboard SB6121.
OK, I waited 7 minutes and ran tftp and it is giving me errors. I put retry 99 and is fails repeatedly.
I selected 192.168.1.100 for the server name for tftp.
Maybe the VxWorksKiller-G2V1-new.bin didn't install after all.
Any other ideas?

ps, thanks for all of your help, it is very much appreciated.
No I never tried Option 1. I assumed it doesn't have the bridged mode nor the WDS support for wireless bridging. I was told I'd need DD-WRT for WDS support.

also are you 100% sure that your router is v1.0 and not 1.1, 1.3 or 1.5 ?
It says on the bottom in three different places WRT54G2V1 but no mention of V1.0 nor any mention of the firmware revions.

I was looking at my files and seen the bold file above vxworksrevert-GSv7-v3.bin and was wondering if this is the correct file? It is the one I successfully flashed originally and is currently running on the router that won't flash anything.
I see that most of my files have a g2v1, while this one has a GSv7 as in a WRT54GS V7 maybe?
If so, is there a way to wipe the firmware or maybe it will just flash the G2V1 version on top of it?
Option 3 (with DD-WRT Firmware):
1 - download VxWorksKiller for your router: ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/WRT54G2V1%20Flashing/VxWorksKiller-G2V1-new.bin
2 - download TFTP GUI: ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/WRT54G2V1%20Flashing/tftp.exe
3 - download DD-WRT build compatible with your router: ftp://dd-wrt.com/betas/2014/03-29-2014-r23838/broadcom/dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin
4 - set static ip (ethernet address to 192.168.1.100, subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.1).
5 - open tftp.exe tool select "VxWorksKiller-G2V1-new.bin" and retry 99 times and click upgrade, plug/unplug the power in your router more or less exactly when tftp.exe start to/retry flash, and then it will flash your router and if ok the circle will turn green (when finish wait for at least 5 or 7 minutes).
6 - now unplug power cord for 30 seconds and then plug it back.
7 - open tftp.exe select "dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin" and flash and if ok the circle will turn green (when finish wait for at least 5 minutes to make sure it was flashed properly).
8 - now unplug power cord for 30 seconds and then plug it back.

sadly, same results. I even redownloaded them from the new links and they all failed.
What response do you get. _________________ SIG:
