I am glad to see this thread is still active. I wonder how many are still running @ 70 TX without problems I could use a little extra power but this router seems to run hot and just looking at its form over function styling makes me nervous... plus it wasnt too cheap if you know what I mean[/quote] I noticed right away that my router is running hotter. I have a small fan that I am going to place under it.
So is DD-WRT working pretty good on this router at all..??
Hows the heat issue, is anyone experiencing any at all, what have you done to alleviate the problem if so..??
Does the DD-WRT CFW have any improvement over the stock FW on this router in terms of Connectivity, Performance, Speed, Range, Heat Output, Security Ect..??
Im still waiting for my WRT310N to be shipped from newegg.com.
In the meantime, are there any DD-WRT installation tutorials at all, that I can read up on, for this router model, so a novice like me wont wind up bricking it on the first go..??

Hello,
Wondering if anyone ever succeeded in connecting to the WRT310n via JTAG.
I managed to flash my router with the wrong firmware and although it appears to be booting normally it will not respond in any way.
I've added a connector to the JTAG block, but when running either the original wrt54g program or Tornado's updated version I only get a message stating that my CPU is unrecognized.
Specifically, this message is:
Probing bus ... Done
Instruction Length set to 5
CPU Chip ID: 00110100001100100001000101111111 (3432117F)
*** Unknown or NO CPU Chip ID Detected ***
Does anyone have a suggestion that could point me towards making my router useful again?
Loaded dd-wrtv24 mini then standard as per instructions here. All is working well save port forwarding. I forward one port on my router to a local static IP that I have created for SSH access to that local machine. I have set the static route in the router, enabled port forwarding on the port I use to the static IP I set up, but I just can't get the port forwarded.
Anyone else having this issue, or am I doing something wrong?
For what it's worth, before I flashed mine with the wrong firmware I was also completely unable to use port forwarding. Had about six different ports set to forward, but none would operate as expected.
Definitely seems to be an issue with the router because switching back to an old 54gs resolved the forwarding problem I was having.
That's what I did and it worked for me. I didn't even reset factory defaults between mini and generic or after generic. All seems to be working except single port forwarding (although range forwarding is working).
I just wanted to add that the dd-wrt firmware DRASTICALLY improves this routers performance. Even with the 100.1.4 linksys firmware, the router wireless speeds were DISMAL. Now with dd-wrt they are LIGHTNING FAST. Really like to thank the devs for this awesome software.
Yep I've noticed a big improvement over the standard linksys firmware now that I've installed DD-WRT.
However I'm a little concerned about the WRT310N I have purchased, it dropped the WAN connection before and the modem still had the ADSL light activated and didn't appear to be having an issue.
This might be my WRT310N, though my old WRT54GS dropped occassionally, maybe I just noticed it because I have a new router.
yeah i should be receiving my two wrt310n from amazon this monday for $79 each. Just mailed off back my 2x wrt610n back. I decided that the wrt310n was such a good deal and couldn't wait for the development of dd-wrt for the wrt610n. Would have been nice to have 5ghz range, but that's fine.
It'll be interesting since I need to setup WDS network since I need to replace my two aging wrt54g v2/3.
Just curious what TX power are people setting their wrt310n at and how long have you've been running it without any issues?
Hey man, mine is set to 28 and reception has been good around the house, downstairs gets average of 75% signal and upstairs gets a little under 50% which is fine.
Heat doesn't seem to be an issue with the setting at 28, though I've used my old WRT54GS router rubber feet to raise the WRT310N off the desk.
No more WAN drop outs and has been downloading/running solidly for the past 15 hours.
Tx power for me at 28 ( I live in a studio apt so this is not an issue for me).
Also, single port forwarding does not work. But port range forwarding does, so just forward a port range that is a single port (or a two port range) and that will solve this issue as a dirty hack (for now). Hopefully upcoming revisions will solve this issue on this router.
Anyone got this to work in WDS mode with N only? I haven't had any luck yet. I've tried wpa2+aes & wpa+aes. They can't connect to each other.
Client bridge/AP seems to work OK.
Also, I bought some of these at newegg for $84.99 + ship, and now they are $97.99
I found them for $79.99 with free 7-9 day shipping at buy.com
You can also get 2 day shipping for $5.50 (for qty 3...I bought 2 from newegg & 3 more from buy.com)
