|
Hi,
I'm trying to setup my old router as a (wireless) repeater bridge but am hitting a wall (figuratively speaking though the night is young).
I'm following a number of guides (including the basic short guide for the DIR-615 D4 here http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Repeater_Bridge), my goal is to use my D-Link DIR-615 (Firmware D4) to extend my 2.4 Ghz wifi signal from my main router (an Asus RT-N66U running the latest version of the asus wrt firmware), also I already have a TP Link Extender in place (not that it seems relevant). Asus Router (I'll call it Router A) set to 192.168.1.1, D-Link Extender (I'll call it Router B) set to 192.168.1.2.
I have loaded the latest firmware (dir615d-ddwrt-webflash.bin) dated 2013-04-22 (v24 PreSP2 [Beta] Build 21061), I used the webflash image as I already had dd-wrt on the D-link already.
I then disable wifi on my laptop and connect to the D-Link via network cable (network cable going to the LAN 1 port) and take the following steps (please excuse the copy and paste in places but I have tailored it with the seemingly missing information):
1. Restore Factory Defaults on Secondary (DD-WRT) Router
2. Do a proper HARD 30-30-30 Reset on the router.
3. Go to 192.168.1.1 and log in.
4. Go to the wireless tab.
5. Choose Repeater Bridge under wireless mode.
6. Match your SSID and channel settings exactly to the main router you will be connecting to.
7. Make sure bridged is selected.
8. Click Save.
9. Go to the Wireless Security tab.
10. Match these settings to your main router exactly (I'm using wpa2, channel 6, no hidden ssid)
10a. I Add a virtual interface as I'm seen references online that if you want to access router b from router a you need to set this with the same details as the physical interface.
11. Click Save.
12. Go to setup>basic setup.
13. IP set to 192.168.1.2, subnet is 255.255.255.0, gateway and dns set to 192.168.1.1
13a. No need to disable dhcp as it has disappeared
14. Click Save
15. Open Setup -> Advanced Routing tab
16. Set Operating mode to "Router"
17. Save
18. Open Services
19. Disable Dnsmasq
20. Save
21. Open the Security -> Firewall tab
22. Uncheck all boxes...except Filter Multicast
23. Disable SPI firewall
24. Open the Set-up -> Advanced Routing tab and change the mode to "router" instead of "gateway".
25. Interface: LAN & WLAN
26. Click Save
24. APPLY Settings
I then disconnect the ethernet cable, turn back on my wifi and nothing. windows 7 is showing the wifi has either no internet access or limited or no connectivity. An ipconfig shows that an apipa address has been issued (169.xxx.x.x), no default gateway shown and a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0. I cannot get to 192.168.1.2 (router B) so plug in the ethernet cable, this doesn't work either).
For guide measure I try restarting / unplugging & plugging in the laptop and the d-link router (but not my asus router).
I'd appreciate any advice that anyone can offer, I've read several guides but cannot work out where the problem lies, if anyone wants to know guides being used are here:

What build are you using?

Also make sure you fix the wifi channel number on your router, and set the DDWRT repeater bridge to use the same channel number. Do not leave it on Automatic.
I use WPA2-Personal, Mixed mode, 20MHz, channel 6 on my D4 without problems on build 20453. |
