Hi all, I've been looking at buying a new router to install ddwrt on it. The R7000 seems very good, but is quite expensive. Can anyone suggest a good performance to cost ratio router which is compatible with ddwrt?
I'm mainly looking for high wifi speed, especially for streaming. I presume that would mean dual band. I don't know if I should go for ac or n. I think n would be sufficient?
Dual-Band would only be necessary if 2,4 GHz-Band in your environment is heavily frequented. 802.11ac only works @ 5 GHz-Band and also needs very actual clients to be compatible with it. I think you would be satisfied with 802.11n. If you'll chose a dual-band router, please take care that it can use both bands simultaneously.

With this list, you know which devices are compatible with dd-wrt and there's shown which 802.11-standard is supported, how many switch-ports are available and so on. I think there is not only one router which could be recommended because it mainly depends on it's price and it's features.
I think this depends on the architechture (incl. clock frequency) of the SoC and you have to have a look at the individually model. If WAN-LAN speed really i slowed down because of the usage of a SoC, it depends on your WAN-line if it really does take any effect. E. g.: if you have a line of 10 mbit/s or less, performance shouldn't be affected by a SoC.
