Hey, let me start by saying an apology if this is in the wrong subforum. I have absolutely no clue what the differences of Atheros and Broadcom are, so couldn't decide which to post under.
After finally receiving my modem and router in the mail today (having just moved into college townhome), I went through the process of setting everything up. Speedtest.com showed me having 59mbps, which for my 50mbps Comcast subscription tier, is very good. However, it went downhill from there. Whenever I set up the router (default firmware) (TL-WR841N) and began using wifi, my speeds went down to around 30mbps. I know it'll decrease, but that much? Then whenever I switched over to the dd-wrt firmware ( DD-WRT v24-sp2 (05/23/14) std ) and added security to the wifi, it went down to 10mbps. I tried using WPA Personal and WPA2 Personal. Again, encryption will decrease the speed a little, but why so much? When using an ethernet cable, my speed goes back to 50+mnps. I know some about the settings of dd-wrt, but not a crazy amount, so please keep any help straight-forward. Thanks! |
