I wish there was a clear distinction between how the A2 and A1 hardware work with these builds. At least two of us running that 29XXX build are running A2 hardware, and unless I'm mistaken I think A2 doesn't seem to have the same bricking issues as the A1 hardware did with many builds.
I'm going to try that 3xxxx build you just mentioned also and see how it goes - hans said it started slowing down like crazy for him and had the 4.x kernel which some are now considering a problem on this router, but again with our A2 hardware maybe that problem no longer exists.
lots of theory - for such an outstanding piece of hardware at such great prices, I'm surprised there isn't someone doing builds for it who actually owns the hardware. I would, but of course don't know how and am not familiar at all with the code (although I am a developer at my day job).
I just bought an A2 version this week and have been monitoring this thread closely waiting for a definitive answer as to whether there is a stable version of DD-WRT available for it. I look forward someone verifying for sure that there are absolutely no issues before I flash my own router.
When updating from pre-existing ddwrt builds, I'm assuming we can skip the initial factory-to-ddwrt step, correct? Also, any other confirmations that 30432 works okay for A2? I'm hearing mixed results so want to make extra sure before I decide which version to upgrade to (right now, I'm thinking either to 30432 where it has *potential* issues with 4.X kernals or what not, or down to 28647 where it might be more stable).
Yes you can skip the factory to dd-wrt step. I can't recall which revision 880L I have but r30432 has been solid for past couple of weeks with ~8-15 wired/wireless devices connected and no issues thus far. Does anyone know what if any vulnerabilities have been addressed between r30432 and current builds?
Awesome, thanks. I upgraded to 30432 and this resolved the speed/performance issues. Did a couple hard resets for good measure and everything still works flawlessly. I'm a happy camper
Trying to get a handle on the latest known-good firmware I can install on a dir880L without bricking. Here's a partial compilation, from this thread. If you have more data, please reply!
r29396 = OK (from ridilen)
r30432 = OK (on v1 hardware. From MoreCowbell & slimbig)
r30826 = BRICKED (from slimbig)
r30949 = BRICKED (from yasfinite)
r31520 = BRICKED (from Xentrk)
r31690 = BRICKED (from Pisi)
r31722 = BRICKED (from Pisi)
I believe kqli06 has confirmed that r30432 has worked well on version A2 as well. I am interested in knowing how things have worked for him over the past couple days.
Just saying - I updated to r30432 using hardware A2 a few days ago.
It definitely has some improvements - I'd managed to work around the config issues with tx power in the older ui ok, but this one has auto and actually seems to work on auto which is nice.
Also some other things are working better in r30432 which make me happy.
I reset settings first, upgraded with reset option again, then manually configured the settings again (I'd written them down before).
Posted: Tue May 02, 2017 20:11 Post subject: 4 - Dlink 880s running now.
So just to follow up with my set of now 4 DLink 880ls. I had 2 running newest (they are in a way extended APs going to one 880 in basement). My 4th router is for my LAB to a ASA firewall. I upgraded that 4th one to newest code using the 30/30/30 at start, then web flash and all is working so far.
I loaded my TWO APs to this code as well and they are running good.
DD-WRT v3.0-r31899 std (04/24/17)
Now I took my core 880 and did the 30/30/30 and loaded 31899 and it got the blinking death. I nvram erased it, and it still had the previous version on it. I then said well let me try via gui, it took and loaded 31899.
So seems I jump a hurdle of some sort. I have again 4 880Ls running 31899.
Packetloss, can you identify if each of your 880l units is hardware revision A1 or A2 please?
I don't know much, but have observed via reading through this thread that the A2 does seem to suffer from fewer problems with dd-wrt than the A1 revision.
