I set up a vpn using these instructions. For over a year it worked fine. All of the traffic through my router was sent over the vpn to the internet. Recently, it stopped working completely. The connection to openvpn is active, but I have no access to the internet through the vpn. If I disable the vpn, I have an internet connection again. I can't figure out what changed to make it stop working. I have tried three different routers and I also set up another VPS with Openvpn installed, but I get the same result. I have made sure that TUN/TAP is enabled on my VPS.

Actually, as soon as I enable the VPN, I can check http://whatismyipaddress.com/ really quickly before my internet cuts out. It confirms that my ip is that of my VPS.

I will suspect a firewall is blocking you at tve remote end. Contact the administrator of that network.

The remote end is a VPS that I installed Openvpn on.

Also when I connect using the OpenVPN Connect software on my computer, it works perfectly.

Have you used traceroute to see how far the packet goes?

It says "Unable to resolve target system name"

The one thing on the internet that I can access is the VPS that I have OpenVPN running on.

Here is another strange thing. When I put an ip address of a computer on my network into "Policy Based Routing," my whole network has internet access again including the computer whose ip I listed. However, none of the traffic is routed through the VPN.

Use traceroute with an ip address, to bypass ns lookup issues.

The trace completed with no problem. It was just really slow.

I found that I can access the internet, but I have extremely low bandwidth. I can use telnet. And I can pull up simple web pages like the "It works!" page from apache. I can also load Google's home page but it takes about two minutes.

I found another strange thing. While DD-WRT was connected to the VPN, I also connected using the OpenVPN Connect software on my computer and I had full bandwidth.

I finally figured out the problem. Under the DCHP settings I set:
Static DNS 1 8.8.8.8
Static DNS 2 8.8.4.4
Static DNS 3 8.8.4.4

They were all 0.0.0.0 before.
