as if anything more couldnt fuck with this xmas, r25639 bricked my tl-wdr4900 v1, since the reset button dont work & it has no tftp to my knowledge, its bricked. ethernet doesnt respond just flashes led, wan port steady on led but no connectivity, both wifi leds off..

i have no idea what to do with serial nor do i have a serial cable (norrr know the price of one)..idk what to do, try & fix it, buy another v1(v2 has half the flash, 80mhz slower cpu), buy another router (archer c7 v2.? but its buggy to HELL..), or move over to the wndr4300 which is or was, the WDS station for the ps3..i WILL NOT, go to broadcom

qualcomm 802.11ac routers are sill limited, supported ones at least besides the archer c7 v2 &..thats it? any serialing to unbrick a wdr4900 v1, experts here?

if i am to go for another router..reqs are

-fast cpu, 650mhz+ minimum
-128mb+ ram, 64mb BARE minimum
-16mb+ flash, 8mb BARE minimum
-3x3 both bands, must be simultaneous
-tftp option would be useful..
-qualcomm atheros, i HATE, broadcom's inability to use high tx power &/or massive radio throughput jitter at even medium, ranges.. plus theyre having reboot issues etc with drivers
-802.11ac is a plus

sigh

those who have a tl-wdr4900v2 (the china version with all antennas external) can u please try the following:

-set regdomain on both bands to canada
-set channels to 3+upper & 153+lower (wide HT40)
-set tx power to 27dbm both bands, & antenna gain to 0

report the wireless status page tx power for both bands, commands tab "iw list", copy/paste results. also does the reset button work & does it have a tftp feature similar to netgear or dlink?

those who have a archer c7 v2, same thing as above please, except use VHT80 for 5ghz & 149+upperupper

Check this and hope it helps: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=784826

As for the usb to serial TTL adaptor, I once got one from Amazon.ca at a very cheap price but it took more than a month to arrive. The adaptor is PL2303HX.

that link combined with openwrt wiki, there seems to be only 2 ips the router can either be listening on, 192.168.0.86 or 192.168.0.136, tried both & nothing no transfer. wireshark shows nothing, just my pc "asking if X ip is out there", the wdr4900 is as dead as it gets..no difference with windows 7 firewall off, even tried with the wan port, nothing

for the serial adapter, images of it show it has 4 connecter..things..the same ones that plug into ur pc motherboard for power switch etc, those cant possibly fit on the wdr4900v1 serial spot on the pcb as theres no pins there just 4 holes with a tiny little what looks like metal/copper contact point around the hole, would the plastic connecter thing on the serial adapter have to be ripped off to expose the bare wires.?

Wish I would of read the before I flashed mine.

Mine is bricked, too. ( 12-11-2014-r25628 )

Have no reset button to use.
( reset button never worked )

To do a Hard reset or tftp the file over.

Looks like in order to use fix it with the RS232 to USB adapter.

You need to PUSH the RESET button. Ugh.

urs shouldnt be bricked just no ethernet, but the wifi & fw itself should be still running. but as of now anything after 25628 kills it completely..

I'm surprised that you have been around so long, been so active on the forums and have no equipment for serial debricking.
I've gotten plenty of USB to uart adapters on eBay for less that $5 us.
A must have IMO for anyone who deals with flashing new builds.

Also I have had all of the dual band netgear atheros, buffalo dual band a few dual band tp-links including the archer c7 v1 and none can hold a candle to my Broadcom units.
I'm trying to unload the archer c7 but no one wants it. Lol

Hi, tatsuya46, if you have soldering iron, you can solder a header pin to the 4 holes on the router. Check this for your reference: http://www.rpelectronics.com/36-140g-2-pc-header-0-10-single-row-pkg-2.html

As for the usb to serial (TTL) the two you found on Amazon.ca are fine but not the one from memoryexpress as it is usb to RS232, it may damage the hardware of the router.

FYI, you only need to connect 3 pins namely Tx, Rx and Gnd between the adapter and the router. Make sure Tx pin from router goes to Rx pin of the adapter, Rx pin from router goes to Tx pin of the adapter and Gnd pin from router goes to Gnd pin of the adapter.

I personally use these. http://www.amazon.ca/niceeshop-Module-Serial-Converter-CP2102/dp/B00F167RMM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1418481412&sr=8-2&keywords=USB+to+uart

I ordered 3 of those cable ones and they never worked. Got a yellow exclamation mark in device manager and when googling the problem the prolific website said they were unsupported Chinese clones.

well, at his point.

My router acts like a switch or hub. It passes the internet through. Like internal DCHP is off.

As for WiFi, i can see it with my wifi analyzer.
as channel 6 and mac address. said WPA2

But, no name to log in to.

my other other WiFi adapters, does not show up at all.

I have no IP to use to login to the router.

I really wish my Reset button worked. I could just reset it.

Any I deals to reset the router with out the reset button. Can I short something out to get it to reset?

Even the serial method, how would you reset it with out a rest button?

This bad news! i m so sad Sad
just some thoughts..
tatsuya try again with wireshark just in boot time and press and hold for couple seconds RESET/WPS button.
I suspect this operation is in all tp-link and is independence from firm.
Disable all adapters and leave only the LAN w/ router.
inspect all packets, even comming from differend IPs like 192.168.0.255 or 255.255.255.255

despite all the things my dir-825 b & wndr3700 v1 went through, there was never a time where a full brick ever happened & they have nice tftp options which wouldnt fail. the only brick i had was my e3000 before but that was my fault..

a v1? well the v2 walks all over that, would u mind if u could do some tests with it on ddwrt outlined above? for 2.4ghz only ofc unless u replaced the 5ghz mpcie card

that one looks better, it looks like i may be able to even lay it against the contact points without soldering, didnt think the memory express one would work (like look at it..) but what did i know

try force a static ip in the subnet the router was last on, if internet is still working wifi or ethernet its not bricked. find it strange how that build reacts differently to urs than it did on mine..i was able to webflash back to r25544 from wifi while it killed my ethernet

There is no build for the v1, I checked. It only has 8mb flash.
I looked at getting the same ac card the v2 has in it but it's more expensive than the c7 v2 itself.

completely dead, just my pc --> router with no response giving me a tftp ip. either mine has a different ip to tftp to (but then i should be seeing it saying so in wireshark), or somehow the non working reset button in ddwrt is playing a role (but it worked in stock fw, has voltage measurements unpressed vs pressed, responds to gpio poll)
