Thank you checho for your 26446 build with the header changed. It seems to work fine in my v5 in the U.S. Are there any mini builds, even older ones for v4, with NoCatSplash and jffs support? Could I use an older build which supports these as I am trying to setup WiFi Hotspot with a basic splash page. With the cost of the WR740N so low I am not overly concerned about bricking if you think a solution might work.

Thanks in advance.

I bought a new TP-Link TL-WR740N from JD.com in China. Here is its firmware info:

5.3.16 Build 130415 Rel.68098n
WR740N 5.0/6.0/7.0 00000000

At the bottom of the hardware, it says V5.8

I found the tl-wr740nv5-webflash.bin file in the last 5 beta builds. I tried to upload the bin file in the web management UI, but got the error code 18000. I tried all 5 available beta builds.

I wonder if I am doing anything wrong. Appreciate any help.

I am a newbie. I read all @checho's messages on page 1 a couple of times, but didn't see anything specific related to how to flash the dd-wrt image to the router. My apologies for not having enough background knowledge on this. Could you please share more pointers? Appreciated!

I'm unable to find working revert files for TL-WR740Nv5. I tried the one from following url.

http://www.friedzombie.com/tplink-stripped-firmware/

But It doesn't work. Can you post revert file for this router?

I tried the this method and it bricked my TL-WR740N v5.0. Then I used method from following video to unbrick it. Now my router is back to official stock firmware. Thanks for the help.

I have created a #26446 firmware for TL-WR740Nv5.
That's the official BrainSlayer beta for TL-WR740Nv4 but with a modified header. It worked on me and I am now testing the router.

ANY RISK IS YOURS:
Although I tested that file and didn't brick my router please keep in mind that this is not an official developer build. I am NOT responsible for anything that may happen if you decide to flash it. If you don't know what you would do please wait until DEV's create official build for that device.

Does your build support VLAN on TL-WR740Nv5 router ? Please let me know.

Hello folks, first time poster and bona fide noob here. Since the last post was just over a week ago, I am hoping as hell this thread's still active cause this is the only one I could find regarding version 5.0 of the TL-WR740N router.

So I flashed the firmware uploaded by checho and the flashing process went fine. Got a flash successful message and the router rebooted but now I can't access the router homepage and there's no WiFi. Now, even though my ethernet cable's connected to my PC via the router, I have internet access and my Xperia picks up the Wifi network named DDWRT and it even says its connected but there's no WiFi.

I have tried accessing the config page with different default gateways e.g 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1, 123.236.162.1(that's what it shows as the default gateway after typing ipconfig /all. I even tried the default address - http://tplinkwifi.net but no luck. When I try to open what used to be the stock firmware's config page from bookmarks(192.168.0.1), it appears that the page is loading before it displays a connection has timed out error.

Would someone kindly tell me what exactly I have gotten myself into? Is my router bricked (fingers crossed its not)and if not, how do I go about recovering it? Since the config page isn't available, I can't flash stock firmware and I am unaware of many other methods. Have read about the 30/30/30 rule but will that erase flashed firmware? Even if it does, I'd like this firmware to work on my router cause there's no official ddwrt firmware for this version of the router.
checho or anyone else, please help me fix my router if possible. Thanks.

The file has weeks at the FTP server here ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2015/07-09-2015-r27506/tplink_tl-wr740nv5/
Use only one, Factory that's all you need
192.168.1.1 it's your new ip

@xeno, do not upload stock FW or you will. brick it
Erase the cache on your internet browser and do not perform 30/30/30
