DHCP Forwarding not giving IPs

I've got a WRT54 and a DLink 300T. (I want to enable PPPoE for those connecting to the WRT54)

If I set the WRT to get DHCP IP and set it's IP to 192.168.2.1 on the LAN (or 192.168.1.20 for that matter) then I can't even ping the modem from a PC connected to the WRT let alone getting an IP from it's DHCP.

What's next?

(If I set the WRT's IP (LAN) to anything within the same subnet as the modem, then I can't even ping the modem from the WRT)
