I tried installing DD-WRT onto my new E1700 router today, I grabbed the two bin files (factory-to-ddwrt.bin & linksys-e1700-webflash.bin) from the router database page.

I reset the router to the factory defaults, then I did the 30/30/30 reset.

I disabled MS Security Essentials and I opened the Win7 command prompt and used the tftp command:
tftp -i 192.168.1.1 put c:\factory-to-ddwrt.bin

After about a minute it came back with Operation time out reached, command did not complete.

I waited another 3 minutes before doing a 10 second unplug and when I did it lights up but I don't get a network connection to it. I try pinging 192.168.1.1 and all 4 packets are lost and the ping tells me that address isn't a valid network.

What did I do wrong? Is it possible to recover from this?

I don't know if the GUI had an update feature, I've always tftp the bin file to routers.
