Netgear AC1450 Router
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (02/08/15) kongac
SVN revision 26190M

Just got my refurb AC1450 running over the weekend. Using 26190M at the recommendation of another user with the same router (http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=279990&highlight=). It was a big learning curve coming form Tomato but I'm catching on to the little idiosyncrasies of DDWRT. When setting up MAC based time access restrictions for my kids' multiple wifi devices, I have an issue where anytime the router is restarted the rules are out of whack. I have two rules set up: 1.) Evening disable all from 22:15 to 23:59. 2.) Morning disable all from 0:00 to 06:00. When I restarted the router yesterday at about 18:00 the rules were in effect even though it wasn't the right time. I thought maybe the timezone wasn't right but it is. My time settings are setup to US/Central Time, ntp server: 0.us.pool.ntp.org.

I am *suspecting* that perhaps the rules are being applied before the ntp server is reached causing the rules to applied in UTC time rather than localtime. I've read several older posts that seem to indicate DDWRT has an inherent issue when it comes to time zones but I just don't know. Here is my /etc/crontab file as was generated by the UI:

15 22 * * 0-6 root /sbin/filter add 1
59 23 * * 0-6 root /sbin/filter del 1
00 0 * * 0-6 root /sbin/filter add 2
00 6 * * 0-6 root /sbin/filter del 2

Any help would be appreciated.

Update:

I changed a firewall rule tonight that caused an IP change by my ISP when I hit "Apply Settings" and this time it worked fine. I don't know what's going on. Unfortunately since I run my modem in bridge mode every time I apply settings it must reset the PPOe connection.

OK. This is still very flaky. I found this post from a few years ago http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=711636

It says that crontab doesn't work because the crontab user is not in the passwd file. He mentions he gets this error in the system log "(crontabs) ORPHAN (no passwd entry)"

I checked my log and that's exactly what I have. I have done everything strictly from the Access Restriction GUI but it just doesn't work reliably. Any ideas?
