If your intention is to use these in a repeater mode you would be better served to use dual band routers. _________________ Segment 1 XR700 10Gb LAN, 1Gb WAN ISP BS

What ? Are you serious ? That would be very strange and wouldn't make much sense, if it were true.
Others are having similar problems with very weak WiFi on RT-N18U: http://svn.dd-wrt.com/ticket/3634#comment:4
Do you see the same issue and did you really fix it by enabling USB Core support in Services ?? _________________ THERE ARE NO STRANGERS HERE; ONLY FRIENDS YOU HAVEN'T YET MET.

I bought a N18U two weeks ago and found the same wifi problem after I install DD-WRT.
I google it and found someone say that enabling the Core USB Support can fix the wifi problem, I tried and it works!
@ddaniel51 - I know, but I don't actually need the speed, I need something which can handle a large number of devices at quite a distance and won't cost me an arm and a leg, the Internet connection that this is sharing out is only 15mbps
@KrypteX - enabling USB Core Support has indeed fixed the problem.
The moment I disable USB Core Support, Wifi drops, as soon as I re-enable USB, the signal comes back. So the issue is definitely related to this. Wifi also still works after rebooting.
Hopefully this will help others with RT-N18U Wifi problems. Looks like just enabling USB core services still may not work for all builds.
I have since bought a second N18U and spent 2 days trying to figure out why I was having issues with the Wifi connection dropping off after about 20 seconds on the new device.
I finally noticed that the Firmware on the two routers was slightly different, the one on the router that was working had "std" (standard) after the version name, the one that was having issues didn't have that.
I flashed both routers using the Asus recovery tool from within Windows, I can't remember where I downloaded the non-std image from. I then flashed the the "std" builds through the Webinterface and after enabling USB services both routers are working like a charm.
I bought router yesterday and have flashed it with the lastest dd-wrt firmware. Same issue on DD-WRT v3.0-r27734 std (08/24/15). And yes, it works with enabled Core USB Support. Thanks to DINKHo and this forum
Another confirm for wifi fix by enabling USB core in build 24160M. Follows my experience:
1.- Unboxed brand new Asus RT-N18U.
2.- Flashed DD-WRT build 24160M.
3.- Setup router for my network. Worked fine for about 1 week, nice wifi coverage.
4.- Suddenly router hanged, no wifi, no wired, nothing. Switch router off/on didn't help.
5.- Reflashed again same image DD-WRT build 24160M
6.- Router recovered. For some reason, reflashing did not kill my former configuration, all settings preserved (is this normal!?)
7.- All working fine, except very weak wifi signal.
8.- Enabled USB core, immediately got full power wifi signal.
It is working fine for the time being.
Here is my system information from the 'status' tab after reflashing:
DD-WRT
Router Model
Asus RT-N18U
Firmware Version
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (05/27/14) std - build 24160M

Hi Guys,
today I bought an RT-N18U and flashed v3.0-r28586 std (12/23/15).
I set it up without problems, USB NAS is working, routing is okay and so on.
Except wifi. When I try to connect my mobile it gets till "obtaining ip address" and that point the router reboots...
Any idea?
Thanks in advance!
