quick question..

Both partitions share the same config files but run different ddwrt revisions?

Im trying to troubleshoot with stock
DD-WRT v3.0-r31780M Partition 2

But is getting the same config i had in partition 1 with r31980M

can it have 2 different config files? or need to back up and do changes and go back and forth with saved config files?

in r31780M i get full speed from ISP with no VPN on but worst VPN speeds than r31980M

In r31980M i get better VPN speeds but worst speeds like half of 90mbps with vpn off. (normal usage)

Normal isp is 90MBPS (actually is 75mbps but comcast always gave me more so aroundish 90mbps)

This is using the same server vpn and everything, the only thing that changes is the ddwrt build.

Ok you guys werent lying about this router been fast lol
im getting mostly 60mbps avg and as high as 70-80mbps vpn speeds using the config directly from PIA itself with no speed modifications settings whatsoever
cpu is not even braking over 15% usage with just vpn and one computer.

The nvram settings are in nvram and it don't care what partition you are booted from or what build you have.
It will run according to what the nvram conf is.

FYI --- DO NOT INSTALL THE NEW RELEASE 05-30-2017-r32162 on the EA8500
http://svn.dd-wrt.com/ticket/5849
if some of you already have and need help to recover without opening the box you can post here Rolling Eyes

r31780M give me better speeds thru wan to lan and VPN speeds over build r31980M (almost 50% more) so im sticking with 31780 for now.

Any dramatic changes between this one and the latests we should be aware about?

any other recommended build? SO far im liking r31780 over r31980 now i just need to rule out the <-Modem-><-8500-> internet dropping connection problems i was getting at the beginning.

Turnning on/off the vpn sometimes i have to reboot router for it to stick good it says connected but no response so i recommend a reboot between on/off save/apply/reboot.
This router reboot in a flash anyway!!!!! lol

Ha Razz -- sorry 'bout that. My bad -- I forgot about the little quirk with that build.
Backup your settings.
Do a factory reset and then it will install over the Kong build.
restore settings.
or
install an older BS build like
ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2017/04-24-2017-r31899/linksys-ea8500/
then install the r32067... you can do that without erasing the nvram Wink

Thanks i really like that build best one so far here for me...

that one you say it have a quirk r32067, you werent lying.. it do have a quirk for real i was able to install it but it will install on both partitions simultaneously instead of from part 1 to part 2 or viceversa.

So i have the 31780M as my main for the time being
and i was trying BS-31899 and is behaving the same as the rest half speed compared to the 31780M Thru normal use thru wan and vpn..

Anybody can corroborate this?

As soon as im running 31780M everything flies i dont get it.

yea maybe so. I installed the new r32162 bad build over it may be what caused r32162 to write to both parts ???
Something weird there.
I have serial hooked up and webflash the r32162 over Kong build and it only wrote to one part ..... it's still broken but didn't kill both boot parts.

Probably some bad juju in 32067 depending on what part you are currently booted to --- it never wrote to both parts on mine but it just would not install over a pre-configured Kong build ..yea wierd!!!
I actually have the r32067 running on another EA8500 as main router and its been beautiful with no problems at all.
QOS good
openVPN server good
ath0.1 & ath1.1 bridged to br1
SAMBA good
it's been as good or better than any other I run.
I did notice it is about 6 MB shy of what most BS builds are ... I just haven't looked to see what is missing ... oh well Cool

This is from like 75feet away from router which mind you i have it in top of the subwoofer as im testing it. Only place open for now this is in a straight line 3 walls (bathroom and a pantry) in between all way on the back porch using the 5ghz plus vpn...

Havent play with the 2.4ghz band as that one need more tweaking alot more im leaving that one from last..I barely have any signal back here or none from 2.4ghz which is weird.

My netgear n900 in the other hand is a beast handing 2.4ghz

Haven't seen yet in the thread (unless I missed it); is the serial cable required to flash the router from the original EA8500 image (v 1.1.5)?
