i just picked up ea7300 which has exact same chipsets and vendor according wikidev, has less ram and one less antenna otherwise exact same. so will the ea8500 load and work on this device ????
Don't think you should try that....
Not likely to end well......
They have different radios also.....
I just got a EA7400/AC1750 for the news dept at work. Not going to be ever supported from what I hear. I am not willing to risk it, even though the Linksys firmware is complete shit! I would not have got it, but the immediate need out weighed the time frame to get a supported router. Damn! Do not flash on a whim. It probably will not work. Crap as it is, fortunately it is being used only as an AP. It will be fine and behind a good firewall, but if it was running DD-WRT, I would have had it working in 10 minutes. Getting used to the Linksys firmware was 2 hours of waisted time!
thanks. i did not notice that the wifi chip is qca9982 and it is qca9980 on the ea8500. since it is atheros i may try to build an openwrt. linksys (belkin) has these as refurbs for 40 dollars so may be worth some experimentation.
So the webgui have issues... I was wondering if it was related to chrome or my zoom/dpi scaling UHD resolution here and i need to use scalings.....
Usually a refresh would fix it but was wondering why it was behaving like that..
Bugs in the build .... don't know about latest public release.
Haven't got to try it.

NOTE: THERE IS POWER OUTAGE AT MY HOMEWORLD...
...LOOKS LIKE A MESS. NOT SURE WHEN THEY GET FIXED.
ANYTHING I HAVE LINKED TO WILL BE BROKEN UNTIL POWER RESTORED.
EDIT: Yay!!! got power now .....dang it's hot

qca9982 is supported by ath10k but the router itself will probably need its own build so bs or kong will need one.. _________________ LATEST FIRMWARE(S)

So far so good, been stable over 5ghz wifi other than the errors on the RX which i dont know what to make of it..
Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r32693 std (07/14/17)

That's not too bad... considering Client mode
I have zero errors on
ath1
ath1.1
ath0
ath0.1
but just APs.
Next time you want to try something you might set ack timing to 0
It does take a reboot for this to take affect
SFE seems to work ok. Still runs w/QOS --- no DL limit
Haven't had any webif crashes but there is still this issue w/Recursive DNS...
syslog say she starts but he's lyin --- most her parts are there but she is dead
w/nothing to make her run so probably won't put this build on main router
Why does this router only have 64KB of NVRAM? My EA2700 has 256KB, and it is a pretty crappy router in comparison. Is it possible to increase the NVRAM in the EA8500?

What are you talking about?
EA8500: Flash 128 MiB + RAM 512 MiB
EA2700: Flash 64 MiB + RAM 64 MiB

I am referring to NVRAM, not system RAM. NVRAM is the portion that contains the router config settings. Go to Status tab and look under Space Usage NVRAM.

broadcom K3.x builds minipulate the RAM to allow 256 nvram.
Works well on some routers for some things.... pain in the ass on some others.
If you put a K2.6 build on your old linksys broadcom it would show 60 or 64 for nvram

not even close to filling the nvram anyway, & qca doesnt have the linksys EA series cfe issue over 32kb, so wheres the issue.? more nvram =/= performance or range etc _________________ LATEST FIRMWARE(S)

It is not an issue or an advantage AFAIK, but I just remember I was very limited and running out of NVRAM on my WRT54GLs, especially when trying to get OpenVPN set up. Then again, it only had 32KB so there ya go!
I definitely could see a large countries blocking in iptables eating up large portions of NVRAM for sure however.
