This is what I'm running

The boy don't need on 5GHz radio anyways.
It works well on 2.4 so I'll leave it for now.

It's possible the xBox may have some issues .. it always worked fine running
on the 2.4 WiFi but last month or so the console started shutting down due to heat.
He keeps two small external fans on it to keep it alive.

with BS 30082 I can confirm my iPad 4 will not connect to the 5G raido, while the other devices are fine. Not sure if the ipad 4 is not supporting my current 5G configration or it's dd-wrt's problem

DD-WRT v3.0-r30590M kongat (09/08/16)
Linux 3.18.41 #210 SMP PREEMPT Thu Sep 8 00:27:12 CEST 2016 armv7l
Seems to be a very solid build
up 22 hours
Just done a reboot to get /etc/hosts straight. I had conf everything in GUI from scratch
but did a slight no-no that I didn't catch till later. Some devices in static lease I used
same name for main IP and guest IP. It worked and handed out correct IP on either but twasn't
tech-correct. Altered name slightly and all is good.

Syslogd reminded me I was stupid every time they connected -
daemon.warn dnsmasq-dhcp[16620]: not giving name oShay.mrjcd to the DHCP lease of 10.15.26.3 because the name exists in /etc/hosts with address 10.72.29.14
daemon.warn dnsmasq-dhcp[3196]: not giving name JCD-Droid-Turbo.mrjcd to the DHCP lease of 10.15.26.2 because the name exists in /etc/hosts with address 10.72.29.13

and-
Not sure what these guys are up to. Several from each of these in log --
daemon.warn dnsmasq[3196]: possible DNS-rebind attack detected: tracker.swfstats.com
daemon.warn dnsmasq[3196]: possible DNS-rebind attack detected: copy.loop.services.mozilla.com
daemon.warn dnsmasq[3196]: possible DNS-rebind attack detected: img.mixplay.tv

This is working great -- good job, Kong
I have 30590M kongat on part1 & 2. Probably keep at this till BS does something different.
I'll continue on Cool

EDIT: SAMBA share is also solid ... this definitely runs circles around the WNDR3700v4

P.S. Just reupped mvebu/ipq builds, since I just added unbound again.

I know that was posted 9 months ago but is there a chance we can get unbound back in the near future on a kong build?

I don't have it but if anyone does they can PM me to get email and I'll make it available.

AFAIK ea8500 firmware exceeds the attachment limit in the forums.

Edit:
If you are already on new US linksys firmware it won't let you go back ---- or so twas my experience.
You will have to whip it with a serial cable. Fairly simple but yea you have to get in the box -

I just put FW_EA8500_1.1.3.166845_prod.img same directory as previous link.

I have not used this version -- let us know if it works.

No luck, router wouldn't let me go back to earlier firmware. I also tried TFTP as well... Should've done a little more reading. Stock firmware isn't bad but the reason for upgrading was to check out DD-WRT...

You can always get a USB/serial cable.

I have half dozen of these.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/PL2303HX-USB-to-TTL-RS232-COM-UART-Module-Serial-Cable-Adapter-for-Arduino-/121900798164?

They work very well. There is also drivers that will work on Winders10 ... since most have threw the XP systems in the dumpster by now

I usually never post about hacking around in a router but looks like most folks wanting to run dd-wrt on the ea8500 will have to.
I'll try do a detail html how-to page when I get some free time -
the ea8500 is easy - already has serial pins - just have to plugin

great thanks for the info, I don't mind opening it up but in one pic I saw it looked like one pin was skipped and I couldn't tell which one.

There is good pic and setup 'here' using same usb/ttl I have
i think they had lots trouble when ea8500 first came out w/early firmware

only thing in that post he mentions letting it fully boot -- but you want to interrrupt that if you are going to tftp dd-wrt on it.

alrighthen I'll work on a step by step... and do LOM's revert back to Linksys and go from there.
Kong's 30590M has been working very well --- might be a little buggy in the USB mount/unmount department thru GUI.
I did lock it up once disabling USB support but the good thing this baby will copy 2+GB file to a winders box without a problem
the old wndr3700v4 would choke anything close to 1GB copy to/from windows

Just to add another data point:

I bought this router on Amazon last week. I ended up with 8830-22536 Rev. C00. It came with FW version 1.1.4.173045 which, as discussed, doesn't allow flashing of DD-WRT or older stock FW. It will say "Invalid firmware file" because the images aren't signed/encrypted.

I should have done more research. Looks like I need a serial cable!

For anyone considering a purchase: You will need to void your warranty and open the box to get DD-WRT working!

Installed kong
DD-WRT v3.0-r30645M (09/19/16)
Linux 3.18.42 #212 SMP PREEMPT Mon Sep 19 00:50:38 CEST 2016 armv7l

haven't done much with it yet.... but it looks good -- up 56 min -- still no unbound
FAT32 flash SAMBA share works ok
droid turbo connects good on AC-Only | VHT80 | 40 upper

must not been up long... just happen to run across it when building a link to his directory for this ea8500 serial how-to
it aint near as much fun as playing with my router

Since I'm prone to do what I'm told is a bad idea I'll quickly tell you about a couple things NOT to do.

Do NOT grab any ol ea8500 factory to ddwrt and expect it to work even using serial.
BS 30082 factory to dd-wrt will wreak havok on you although the 30082dd-wrt-webupgrade.bin is a decent build.
Using LOM's EA8500_webrevert.bin (it works great) will leave you with linksys FW_EA8500_1.1.4.168206 which is fine.
I actually then installed the FW_EA8500_1.1.3.166845 just to have a look. All's well with that but if you want to run a good
Linksys firmware on this router you need their latest Ver. 1.1.4.173728
DO NOT try to go from 1.1.4.168206 or earlier directly to 1.1.4.173728 It will leave you with an ugly mess -
Yea I know it is posted in big RED letters for US ea8500 routers at their site
http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=156300
I read it few days ago but I tried it anyways --- I don't recommend you do that.

but all in all these boxes seem fairly resilient Smile
------
Edit:
Up about 7 hrs with this new Kong build.
CB to wndr3700v4 on 5GHz with computer wired and couple devices connected to 2.4. Also have SAMBA share flash drive working well and accessible from anywhere on LAN
NO problems

Ok this should help some -
'Installing dd-wrt on the linksys ea8500'

some day when I grow up I'm gonna get some fancy website designing tools.
Building piece at a time and typing it all in a text editor can still be fun but very time consuming --

I believe the Linksys EA8500 to be an excellent router Smile
