I really hope there's more movement on the ddwrt side or whatever. I loaded the OpenWRT build and it was working great at first. Then slowly but surely things started going haywire. A couple days ago I noticed one of my systems (a mid 2010 Mac Mini) was acting all screwy where speedtest.net would hang in the middle of a speedtest and the speed would drop to almost 0 and just get stuck. Then I started noticing that anytime I tried to download most files, the download would either partially download a couple mb or less (regardless of how big the download was) and then cut out. I determined it was the router and tried factory resetting and rebooting multiple times to no avail. I finally gave up and had to TFTP flash the original crap 1.0.2.2 FW back onto the thing. Now it's 'stable' but I'm sure other things will start breaking... prior to the OpenWRT madness, I was having a lot of trouble with my Foscam dropping out as well as some devices going haywire when WMM was enabled. But then disabling WMM resulted in a major throughput bottleneck somehow. This router doesn't have much going for it in my book, unless Netgear fixes all these issues OR further progress is made on the open source dev side.
ath10k 10.4 fw still needs work/updating, we're still using ath10k 10.4.1 while theres ath10k 10.4.3 is several iterations in already..never got an answer as to why we're falling behind. for a unit such as this brainslayer or kong is going to need one for porting..or at least a user with one thats an expert in linux development that could port it themself & submit the required patches (rare). _________________ LATEST FIRMWARE(S)

I had the idea a while ago of doing a remote session to Kong, plugging him into the R7500v2 on a terminal session.
He seemed mildly interested (I'm sure it's not as much fun if you don't get to keep the toy when your done). But mentioned he may have been getting one from myopenrouter.
I followed back up and he said he wasn't getting one, and was potentially getting the R7800 instead.
Until today I haven't heard back from him, and neither are supported. So seems like he got neither.
I received a R7800 2 days ago, the first one went on a journey and was sent back to netgear after a few weeks. Second one came in fast.
Regarding the 7500v2, it might be possible to add support for it without a unit. The SOC in the v2 is the same as in the v1, thus requires only little changes.
The soc in the R7800 is newer (IPQ8065) and it looks like I need to work on the kernel first, it boots, but reboots in the middle of the init without a notice or crash.
But very interesting unit, it has got a bunch of extra power saving modes and of course the 2x1.7Ghz will be kicking ass, not sure if the mu-mimo and 160Mhz will be much of a benefit right now, since the majority of devices does not support it.
That sounds awesome Kong, thanks for keeping us in the know!
Regarding the 7500v2, of course this would be very much appreciated to get support up and running. I have a unit in my possession if you need to get an initial build flashed onto a physical router, and I dump some info back to you via this thread or via PM, not an issue.
Regarding the 7800, that is something that really tickles me. To finally be reaching a point where we have home routers that can reach ~100Mbps VPN throughput (now if we could get OpenVPN coded for multi core ). If this ends up being the case, I will soon have a 7500v2 on the market that I will sell and put towards the 7800 But the 1.4 in the 7500v2 is nothing to shrug at either.
Either way, I am excited for both. 7800 for the raw GHZ power, and of course the 7500v2 that I have sitting in its box waiting for DD-WRT. Until then, the ol' trusty R7000 is the daily driver.

not really worth the price going from ipq8064 to ipq8065 just for that extra clock speed, im betting both are the same chip thats just "overclocked", if so, maybe the ipq8064 could be overclocked. can it kong?
also ath10k recently took huge steps back in many aspects out of nowhere except throughput, which is better, so i wouldnt expect vht160 to be in any decent working order either.. _________________ LATEST FIRMWARE(S)

That's what I want to check first, to see how far we can overclock the R7500v2. So far, at least on the R7000, 200mhz OC has always been guaranteed for me. So I would expect we can get up to 1.6Ghz. However, if we can Overclock the R7800 from 1.7 to 1.9, that's pretty fast.

Kong firmware for the R7500V2 will be the greatest gift for the R7500V2. I am really anxious to try it!!! _________________ Netgear R7800(2), R7500v2(2) WDS, Asus RT-AC68R (2)
If I am reading it correctly, I think the R7500v2 is in the same boat the R7800 is in. That BS has the drivers for it, but is missing a firmware for them to operate. I assume, and I may be wrong, but once the R7800 is up and running, the R7500v2 should be close behind.

The Netgear R7500V2 has Qualcomm IPQ8064 @1400 for platform and frequency and Qualcomm QCA 9984 (2) for wifi NIC. The hardware is exactly the same as the hardware of the Linksys EA8500.
Yet the EA8500 is supported and the R7500V2 is not. But I have to believe that support is coming soon. BS or Kong will seize the day (Carpe diem)!!! _________________ Netgear R7800(2), R7500v2(2) WDS, Asus RT-AC68R (2)
