OK, this may be an annoying newb question but: when you folks are moving from one Kong build to another, are you doing a factory reset and then manually setting up the new firmware from scratch? The guides say to do this, so I have been - not using a saved config even, but entering all the settings by hand. Is that necessary? It's kind of error prone...

It's pretty straightforward - just download the appropriate .bin file and use the upload firmware in the DDWRT UI. No need to factory reset, etc...
On that note, it looks like the latest build (9/30) the support for eSata has been included and seems functional! I haven't done extensive testing other than to plug a drive in and confirm that it shows up in dmesg and also in the Services/USB section as an available drive. Pretty cool!

Thanks. On the firmware upgrade page, I wasn't sure when it said "Only upload files backed up using this firmware and from the same model of router." if that meant the same build as well. _________________ Netgear Nighthawk X4 R7500v2

I notice there's a build for the v1, which I have had for many years. I am a bit troubled by the official firmware because the 5GHz seems to destabilize over time, requiring me to reboot. It still broadcasts, except no one can connect to it. But I don't really see anyone mentioning the v1 in this thread. Does everything work OK?
From what I heard, v1 is horrible. It's hardware issue, dd-wrt may not make it better.

I just picked up an r7500 v2 for a great price on eBay. The antenna were shipped removed from the router. They are numbered but there are no corresponding numbers on the router.
Does it really matter where they go? _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.
I was on kongs latest. Btw when flashing the initial file, I issued an erase nvram and reboot.
The router seemed caught in a boot loop. I remember reading about disconnecting the Ethernet cables, so. Did that and it rebooted.
I entered my settings, hit apply, same boot loop. Had to disconnect everything.
Seems like too much trouble, so I issued erase Linux and uploaded the factory firmware.
The ea8500 seems easier to flash. Not sure which I'll keep yet. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.
Not sure if we are facing same issue, the way I fix it is: unplug the power for 10-15 seconds and plug it again while power button at on position. No need to unplug all ethernet cable.
