What can I do? The default firmware is so bad
I guess because the FW posted in this thread is for TP-Link TL-WA854RE Rev. V1, not for TL-WA860RE.
Wait for someone more expert than me to help further.
I discovered the problem, the firmware is like signed. Searching I found online one cinese software can change the id about the firmware before flash. Done, now the repeater is working fine.
Finnally dd-wrt is in my TL-854RE as well.
😀
The upgrade went just fine.
Configured as suggested in the forum.
Unfortunately the problems continue: the repeater can be an entire night connected without an issue, provided it is not used. When I start surfing the web, after some 5-10 mins, the repeater looses internet access.
After looking into my main router, there's a message there like:
"static ip -healed" and reporting ip 1.1.1.1 for my dd-wrt powered repeater (which has fixed ip 192.168.0.5, as the router is 192.168.0.1).
[edit2]
after reboot of the ddwrt tplink repeater, my router recognizes is as being 192.168.0.5 (as configured).
some seconds after:
169.254.255.1
Static IP Address - Healed
then:
1.1.1.1
Static IP Address - Healed
of course, that with both changes the router refuses to serve the repeater and the repeater can't give network access to its clients.
What should I do ?
Some time ago, I had a fonera with stock firmware which had a wireless bridge mode in which it had a 192.168.0.2 ip for the main router, and it worked as a router for its own clients giving dhcp addresses in the 192.168.100.x range - this worked flawlessly. Is there a way of configuring my dd-wrt powered tplink repeater in the same way ?

Forget about repeating. Just configured client mode + AP mode in a virtual network.
Both bridged.
Everything working fine and stable.

This can be found in the first post of the thread, probably would of saved you a lot of troubleshooting if you read the first post entirely prior to configuring
Anyway now it's working as desired which is great !

Yes. I've read your first post.
But when reading it (at a "noobish" stage) I've understood that I should follow the instructions for "Setup DD-WRT Qualcomm Atheros repeater bridge ".
And that's where I've failed.
Didn't understood at first that I shouldn't have done that
After loosing some days I've decided to continue to the second set of instructions on how to setup client mode. And then configured the AP mode, and bridged both virtual networks together.
The client+ap is Working continuously without an issue until today [13 days, and counting]

Same problem here (1.1.1.1 showing on main router) - I actually have it set to static so no DHCP.
Actually oddly though everything works fine for every device except for iPhone and iPad's. Keep having to chose 'renew dhcp info' on those.
Have it set up as 'client bridge' and AP as the virtual. Read the 1st post a few times and looks to be OK and considering it's fine on Android and PC (very stable) it's got me confused.

Any ideas?
Sounds more like a issue with iOS itself than the repeater, so I would look into some apple forums help.
