I am trying to determine if I can install dd-wrt on a Linksys EA6100. I haven't found anything saying it isn't supported, but I also haven't found anything for the Mediatek chip. I have attached the photos of the internals.

I would also like to know this as I picked one up at a thrift store for $2.

If it isn't supported, what can I do to make it supported? I am willing to rip it apart.

What are the general steps to hacking an unsupported device?

It is interesting to note that Buffalo WHR-1166D is almost identical and is fully supported.

They both have the same chips inside, but Buffalo has smaller 16MiB Flash ROM chip. So theoretically it should be possible.

Buffalo WHR-1166D:
CPU1: MediaTek MT7620A (580 MHz)
WI1 chip1: MediaTek MT7620A
WI2 chip1: MediaTek MT7612E
FLA1: 16 MiB (Brand? Model?)
RAM1: 128 MiB (Nanya NT5TU64M16HG-AC)

Linksys EA6100:
CPU1: MediaTek MT7620A
WI1 chip1: MediaTek MT7620A
WI2 chip1: MediaTek MT7612E
FLA1: 128 MiB (Spansion S34ML01G100TFI00)
RAM1: 128 MiB (Winbond W971GG6KB-25)

EA6100 additional chips:
5GHz Power Amplifier IC;Skyworks;SKY85402;;2;
SPDT Switch w/ LNA;Skyworks;SKY85601;;2;;16-pin QFN;2.5x2.5mm;

WHR-1166D additional chips:

While there is a build for the WHR-1166D, getting the first copy of DD-WRT onto it remains an issue. I have done some research, but as yet have had no success. There is some possibility that an image can be built that can be loaded onto the unit via TFTP, but I would have to learn a lot about the Linux build process and creating an image before I could do so myself.

I was able to get a serial terminal open. Similar to the WRT1900AC. It is the 6-pin header (labelled J2). Pin 6 is ground (wouldn't solder for me), pin 5 is Tx, pin 3 is Rx. VCC is the square hole, pin 1, don't connect it. Settings are 57600 baud, 8N1.

Attached are logs from my various attempts at flashing an already made dd-wrt image. I used this one: ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2018/08-30-2018-r36808/buffalo_whr_1166d/firmware.uimage

I am willing to test any and all dd-wrt images on this unit. Devs, please build a test image for it. I know the router has 2 partitions. I don't mind if I brick the unit.
