Hi, I asked this elsewhere but was told to try the Broadcom forum.
I'm trying to connect one router to another over wifi, I'm using the repeater wiki guide, not repeater bridge as I want to keep the networks separate.
I've setup my Linksys E1200v2 in repeater mode, it connects to the other router ok and gets its WAN IP from there, but I can't get on the internet.

Here is my setup:

Router 1: Belkin (192.168.11.254) This is where the internet comes in. I have no access to the config on this router.
Router 2: E1200v2 v24-sp2 mini build 21061 (192.168.5.1)
PC wired to router 2.

I used the following guide https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Repeater
I also changed the routing mode from gateway to router, and dynamic routing to LAN & WLAN.

Here is some connection info from router 2:

WAN:
Connection Type: Automatic Configuration - DHCP
IP Address: 192.168.11.50
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.11.254
DNS 1: 192.168.10.1
DNS 2: 212.159.6.10
DNS 3: 212.159.6.9

LAN:
IP Address: 192.168.5.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 0.0.0.0
Local DNS: 0.0.0.0

I'm no expert at this stuff, so any help would be great. Something I've probably missed somewhere..

Hi axelay,

Did you turn on the DHCP server on your DD-WRT router? If not, turn it on. You can turn it on in Setup --> Basic Setup --> DHCP server --> Enable

If you already enabled it, check if your computer gets an ip-address that's in the same subnet as your DHCP-server. If it doesn't get an ip-address from the DHCP router, try rebooting your router. If after the reboot your PC still haven't got an ip-address, then try to give it manually an ip-address in the same subnet as your router, subnet mask, standard gateway (your router) and a DNS address.

If it still doesn't connect, I think your neighbor doesn't want you connecting to his router and stealing his internet.

May be a DNS problem, to check this open your webbrowser and type in the address bar: 23.100.122.175 or an other well known ip adress (this one is from microsoft)

If you see the microsoft website then the problem is DNS related

Haha, not stealing anything here. Its a router in the office. I've also tried doing all this on a different router/line which I have full access to. Same result.

DHCP is enabled. Everything seems to be as it should, ddwrt has got its WAN IP from the belkin, just no internet access.
Also checked the wifi status, RX 433 OK no errors, TX 55 OK 270 errors.

From ipconfig:

IPv4 Address: 192.168.5.133(Preferred)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.5.1
DHCP Server: 192.168.5.1

egc I can't connect to IP's or URLs. The only ip I can ping is 192.168.5.1 (the ddwrt) and the WAN ip it got from the other router 192.168.11.50.
I've also tried pinging the gateway 11.254 and the dns servers listed in Status>WAN, no luck.

are your encryption passwords the same for both the physical and virtual interfaces....I seem to remember that unless the physical has no encryption (you could have encryption on your virtual)... then both encryptions of the physical and virtual had to be identical....it was a gotcha back when 21061 was built...if memory serves me correct.

Try filling the standard gateway and DNS in the LAN section.

@redhawk
I have no problem with encryption on the physical and virtual interface (v3.0r-29218). But to be fair, I had tested it in repeater bridge mode.

Both have the same password. I also tried with encryption disabled on the other setup where I have full access to the other router. No change.

I filled in the gateway/dns etc with 192.168.5.1 and also the various IP's coming from the Belkin in the WAN status page. I can't even ping them so I expected them to not work.

My latest attempt is with newer firmware 29316, still the same..

I meant filling 212.159.6.10 or 212.159.6.9 or 192.168.11.254 or 192.168.10.1 as dns in the LAN section

Maybe you should try client mode. Connect to the Belkin router as client gives you a WAN ip-address, but you still can set your DD-WRT (Linksys) router's LAN in a different subnet.

That way clients connected to gateways/router/switches in front of your DD-WRT router cannot accces clients connected to your DD-WRT router.
Clients connected to the DD-WRt router can acces clients connected to the Belkin router.

The setup is the same as for repeater mode. So you just need to set the wireless mode from repeater to client and then Apply settings and see if the miracle works.

I just realize that in client mode no wireless clients can connect to the router. Only wired clients can connect. In the link below you can see my setup, but you need to have another AP if you want to connect wireless clients to your router.

I had some issues with ip-renewals and therefor my internet connection. The setup I have now seems to work as it should ... Stable.

either you have to put a static route to the Belikin router (192.168.5.0 gateway 192.168.11.50) or enable NAT on Router 2.

That is wrong for Repeater Mode or Client Mode... in either of these settings the router should be a regular gateway ... only difference is you get your WAN connection from its wireless then you create a VAP (repeater mode) to connect other wireless devices to it.

wow ok, its now working! only taken three days haha
The reason I was changing to router mode and dynamic was because on my very first attempts as soon as I apply either client or repeater modes it wouldn't let me log back into the router. But this time it is working as gateway. Maybe it was a different firmware before, currently on the latest beta.

Thanks guys
