Oooh, one more thing. What is the exact firmware to install for this Atheros on the F5D8230-4? Links help.

You should use dd-wrt.v24_atheros_wifi.bin, but you still have to wait a few more time, because BrainSlayer change it to work this router, but the version on the Download page is not the newer one...

I have it, but I don't know if I can share it...

Got my card in the mail today from Hong Kong. I'm ready to install but need the right FW version.

Here you have it...

I decided to pull the Bekin out of the drawer and play with it again. D/L the atheros v24 sp1 v10011 and flashed it. So far I'm loving my new router! completely stable at 300Mhz and really fast. Only things that I have found problematic are that when I enable Turbo Mode it puts the router into a continuous rebooting loop.. have to hard reset it to fix that.. may be something specific with my atheros card? Also, will the N/40Mhz channel ever be introduced?

I'm having the exact same issue!

I swapped out the Airgo card with an AR5416 ( bought from here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=300259797186 )

I flashed with 24 SP1 (Atheros wifi build) http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/v24-sp1/Consumer/Broadcom%20Generic/dd-wrt.v24_atheros_wifi.bin

Everything works fine except the 33% RX packet errors. Also, it doesn't appear as though dd-wrt recognizes this as an N wifi card.

Any ideas how to fix the RX errors?

FYI,

the RX errors with my AR5008-3NX have been fixed since applying Brainslayer's latest Atheros build here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/dd-wrt.v24_atheros_wifi.bin

The atheros madwifi driver has been updated in the latest release. Before, in the 24 SP1 build dmesg would show this:

ath_hal: 2008-06-17 (AR5210, AR5211, AR5212, AR5416, AR9160, AR9280, RF5111, RF5112, RF2413, RF5413, RF2133, RF2425, XR)
ath_pci: DD-WRT release

Now its:

ath_hal: 2008-10-02 (AR5210, AR5211, AR5212, AR5416, AR9160, AR9280, RF5111, RF5112, RF2413, RF5413, RF2133, RF2425, XR)
ath_pci: DD-WRT release

The "dd-wrt.v24.preSP2_atheros_wifi.bin" doesn't work on my router.

I can't flash it... Sad

Well, it seems this router is sensative to firmware sizes. I've been able to flash version 24SP1 of the Atheros build without issue (size < 3.49MB). Unfortunately, Brain Slayer's latest Atheros builds have been too big for a successful flash ( just over 3.5MB) - located here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/down.php?path=downloads%2Fothers%2Feko%2FBrainSlayer-V24-preSP2%2F241008%2Fbroadcom/

Brain Slayer, is there any chance the 24 SP2 Atheros release be trimmed a little bit? Thanks.

I am new to this forum and registered due to this thread. I have a Belkin Pre-N, however it is a ver.2 model.

I am fascinated by this. Does anyone know if the DD-WRT FW in this thread can work in my pre-n?

Thanks

tusc, are you saying the additional 44kb of the new 10600 build over the 10011 build is causing the flash problems?

Yep,

in fact I was able to trim the firmware a little bit using the extract/build firmware instructions ( http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Development#Instructions ). I believe I removed a couple executables in the /usr/bin directory (chilisoft and sputnik) and this allowed the router to accept the firmware.

I had to use the extract/build binaries from this location in order to build a valid firmware:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/down.php?path=downloads%2Fothers%2Ftornado%2Ffirmwaremodkit2-new-LZMA/

Good luck
