I have sad news. Installing an older boot loader hard-bricked it. It's going back from whence it came.

I need to find something comparable, that can still be purchased normally, and will allow dd-wrt without requiring a colostomy bag.

Well I have my original netgear I can try and flash. Then use the Asus as a backup. Good Luck.

Thanks. Smile

I have a Netgear R7000 Nighthawk ordered. From my reading it looks like it should work well for my purposes. Hopefully Netgear won't have pre-gimped it before shipping it out (like it appears Asus did with mine), and I'll be able to get dd-wrt on it.

Thank you everybody for the responses on everything!

Hi. New here.

I can install any version of BS for my ac66u including the latest 29440 (dd-wrt-29440-Asus_RT-AC66U_20160411.trx). Followed afterwards by Kong build 25015M-SP1 (Linux 3.10.55-rc1 #84 Mon Oct 6 22:34:21 CEST 2014 mips). This is running well for me, no issues.

I have some Q's,

1. I cannot find any more later version of Kong build for my router. Anyone knows if there is any?

2. I tried using Kong K3-AC-ARM (STD.bin versions) but not lucky enough, it always ends up non responsive state but it will say upgrade successful. Revert using Asus recovery page, and installed back as stated current running Kong build.

3. In Kong build K3-AC-ARM STD.bin versions, it says supported models are Asus RT-AC67U, RT-AC68U, etc. I do not see the AC-66U. I am not aware of AC-67U model. Or am I missing something from here?

Thanks in advance.

The AC66U uses a MIPs CPU so you can't use Kong's ARM build. Kong's supported models file specifically lists the supported models for each build.

Thanks. Understood. Was not aware of that point then. Cheers.

Anyone knows where to get the most recent available Kong K3-AC build for my router?

Kong have stopped developing for the RT-ac66u.

This is the build you should use:
ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2016/04-11-2016-r29440/asus-rt-ac66u/dd-wrt-29440-Asus_RT-AC66U.trx

Thanks for the info. I hope Kong will support ac66u again.

I had flashed BS 29440 as stated in my first post, but followed with Kong 25015M-SP1 build.

I just purchased it and found the same situation (followed the wiki, cleared nvram, uploaded the DD-WRT v.29440 firmware, stuck on the recover page). So, just want to make sure, are there any solutions for this problem yet?

Ps. I am new to DD-WRT and did just a little research before purchased it. And, if my English is bad, I am very sorry. I am not a native.

I am in the same boat. Have any of you had any luck after your initial post or did you just all abbandon this router?

Check the CFE version. If you have 1.0.2.x,downgrade to 1.0.1.9

I assume this would be the boot loaded of the 5th generation RT-AC66U? How can this be checked? And how can it be downgraded to install dd-wrt-29440-Asus_RT-AC66U.trx?
