I'm currently looking for a small travel router with a build-in power supply. The TP-Link TL-WR810N would be a nice device:

http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/cat-9_TL-WR810N.html

Any chance of getting dd-wrt to run on this device? It basically looks like a "WR710 + mimo support" to me...

I don't have mine yet. Just ordered the european version on Amazon along with the older WR-710 model.

Couldn't decide on which device I should use because the 710 is already supported - but MIMO on the new 810 sure would be nice.

So I can't really tell you which firmware the 810 is shippping with, I'm sorry.

What should I look for?

I've modified the header of the DD-WRT 29739 factory-to-ddwrt build intended for TL-WR841ND v11, so it will flash on a TL-WR810N v1 running stock TP-Link firmware.
If the attached build works for you, it can be further updated with any newer-than-29739 webflash build for TL-WR841ND v11.

Disclaimer: I haven't tested the attached builds myself, so I'm not responsible in any way if you brick your router.
Please only flash this build if you know how to unbrick it.

Note: You must be logged in to be able to download the attachment.

My TL-WR810N works well after flashed with the US build above.

Is there a way for me to flash it back to the original factory build or to other builds, like OpenWRT?

TIA

If it works well, why do you want to do that ? Do you really want to brick it ? And OpenWrt itself is dead, if you haven't noticed...

I see. Can I flash it back to the manufacture build posted on their website?

Only if you know your way around with TFTP + you need an image without the bootloader (stripped firmware).

Or you want to risk a webrevert...

Finally got mine today. But the model is TL-WR810(EU) v1.1. and not v.1?! Should the image still work?

In what way is OpenWrt dead? I was looking at their build for the WR810N as well and it looks like it's still maintained.

I just flashed the firmware from factory using the above link. I am trying to get it setup and I am missing the OpenVPN settings menu. I have tried upgrading to the TL-WR841ND v11 29837 build and the same results. Is OpenVPN not supported on this device?

Does one of the developers know when they might be able to add this to the supported hardware?

Seemingly not official yet. I tried the OpenWRT mod approach described on
https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=65018, but never succeeded.
