Router model: TP-LINK WDR-3600
DD-WRT Version: DD-WRT v3.0-r29621 std (05/10/16)

This is a dual-band router. The problem is that once every couple of days the 5GHz network becomes non-functional. Doing a settings change/apply or a router reboot will solve it. The 2.4GHz network does not have a problem.

I have set the firmware to reboot daily, and this does not solve it. The problem does not seem to be related to uptime. It has happened only a couple of hours after a scheduled reboot during a low-load period.

I have tried various settings tweaks on the 5GHz radio: band widths, channels, N-only, mixed. Currently trying lowing the TX power from 20 to 18 to see if that seems to help.

Are there any other settings tweaks that may help me reliably work around this problem?

Thanks

Went through these, the only one that it caused me to change was enabling Short Preamble (since it is disabled by default)

I use AC/N-Mixed and channel 153.

No issues.

WDR3600 has the same specs as DLINK DIR-835 A1.
You might want to downgrade your version to r22118 and set the settings:

Wireless Mode: AP
Wireless Network Mode: NA-Mixed
Channel Width: Turbo HT40 (40 MHz)
Wireless Channel: 153
Extension Channel: Lower
Wireless Network Name (SSID)
Wireless SSID Broadcast: Enable
TX Power: 20 dBm
Antenna Gain: 0 dBi
Protection Mode: None
RTS Threshold: Disable
Short Preamble: Disable
Outdoor Band: Disable
TX Antenna Chains: 1+2+3
RX Antenna Chains: 1+2+3
AP Isolation: Disable

These work well for my 5GHz. I use 3 DIR-835's. 1 AP and 2 client repeater (routed). Connection from clients to AP is at 450M (goes down to 405M sometimes) but connection never gets dropped.
You might want to try r22118 on your WDR3600.

Thanks for the info. Is r22118 noteworthy as a particularly stable release, or does it just happen to be the one that you run successfully? At this point I think it is about 90% likely that the problem is due to hardware, but willing to downgrade if it is considered generally to be more stable for the hardware.

If you are using VHT 80, the recommended channels are 36, 100, or 149....

Currently using 'full' width 20 MHz since wider widths caused problems.. but will try some of those channels. I've tried quite a few channel/width combos.

I've had good performance using Wide HT 40.

YMMV.

VHT80 doesn't even appear as an option for me. I get: Quarter, Half, Full, Wide, and Dynamic. Any idea why this might be?

Another data point, changing to Wide HT40 on channel 149 made the 5ghz point totally and immediately inaccessible from any device. The 2.4 still working fine.

What Regulatory Domain are you using?

What Wireless Mode?

UNITED_STATES

NA Mixed (was trying N only earlier in my troubleshooting. Seems like I saw recommendation to used mixed method somewhere)

That's Wireless Network Mode...I would try AC/N mixed.

Wireless Mode = AP, Client, Client Bridge, etc.
