Hi,

I currently have a main router with OpenWRT hosting the internet, so it is gateway, it's Dnsmasq handles smart DNS to bypass geo-restrictions, QoS, smart shadowsocks client and adblocking.

Now I have a new router running DD-WRT, it is now running in router AP mode only.

The gateway's QoS is not as good as dd-wrt's one, so I wonder if I can use the QoS function on the DD-WRT, while it's running in router AP mode?

Or it is necessary to have it run in gateway mode to handle all the DHCP and DNS, NAT, UPNP etc?

I guess I can have the 2nd router run dnsmasq and act as dhcp and dns server. But I don't know about the QoS.

Best Regards,
