Here is where I am at on the WRT160N

cant type in the IP and make changes, producing a signal.. as an AP. not excited about that signal strenth,

ya know that whole "disable DHCP" it says that on top.. where i changed to "staic IP' and its also a enable/disable thing below. also that static IP, there is a spot for it in LAN and WAN.. I think that is the difference.
But anyway its confusing.

Ummm, yeah, the IP configuration on the main router and AP are very important. It goes back to the networking basics I mentioned in my first reply. In order for the main router and AP to be able to talk to each other, and allow the clients connected to them to talk to each other, they need to be on the same network.

By same network, I mean the first three octets of the IP address need to be the same (192.168.1.#, or 192.168.5.#). You decide, but they need to be the same on the main router and the AP.

This video showed me how to change settings.

https://youtu.be/oenmXhN9sqA

Here is a couple screenshots.

I am sure its already on this site, but I didn't know what words to type to find it.

NETWORK CONNECTIONS
right click "LOCAL AREA CONNECTIONS"
select the "internet version protocol"
and then click the BOX that says PROPERTIES.

my main IP is 192.168.5.4 and AP is +1 of that
Use 10 or any number at first and then main IP

I did it. It works. You know what I decided. this cisco WRT160Nv3 router is underpowered. The signal it makes on the other side of the house is about as bad as the one i was getting from the r6000v2 in the first place.

I guess if you had one room, and no signal, it would be ok.

So the addiction isnt cured. You can get a r6000v2 on ebay for $30-40 bucks. I got one coming. I really wanted the nighthawk. That name just sounds cool. But they are still holding near $100 or more.

I APPRECAITE EVERYONES THOUGHS AND HELP. LOVE DD-WRT!

tell me if I am missing something.
