I just installed Kong's latest firmware on my R9000, but can't seem to find the answer anywhere.... is there no way as of yet to install / enable Plex Media Server without reverting back to the factory firmware? I hate the factory firmware, but I bought the router for capability of plex.
Tried several google searches, but can't seem to find an answer.
I realize there's nothing "native" built into DD-WRT GUI so to speak, but I was hoping at some point that there may be some capability to ssh in and install it. Love DD-WRT, but stinks i can't really use it on the R9000 since I need it as my plex server.

I came across another thread on here from someone trying to install plex on an R7500 and claimed success although gave no details of the install, other than alluding to being able to install Python. The R9000 stock firmware is pretty garbage in my opinion. The Open WRT port is almost worse as its severely crippled. DD-WRT seems the best choice but no ideas on how to install plex. I'm sure there's must be a way to do this. Any ideas?

i understand, & again afaik there is still no plex, no one has done it. no one has put in the effort to create such a offer, or im wrong. if someone has found out a way, it should be shared.. no reason to hide it, like, its plex, really now people.. _________________ LATEST FIRMWARE(S)

I run Plex on a NAS and leave my routers to router stuff. _________________ Segment 1 XR700 10Gb LAN, 1Gb WAN ISP BS

I may get an R9000.
I notice there's a fan in it . Is it possible to turn it off completely ?
What are the situations when you hear it ? (always ?)
thanks _________________

Never heard it. Max load I had was with OpenVPN running at 100Mbps. Can't confirm what the CPU load was but it has 4 cores and OpenVPN is using just one core.
Hmm... interesting, but seems very specific to the asus guys. Also they note the "Asus" installation has no transcoding abilities, whilst the R9000 has native transcoding capabilities which is why it makes such a great all-in-one device as a router / plex server.
Having a separate NAS is not ideal, and for what I need very costly. The R9000 was the perfect solution.... minus the fact there seems to be no custom firmware to allow both advanced router configuration AND a plex server....

Does anyone know if there's a tutorial somewhere on installing a chrooted debian instance once DD-WRT is installed? I can't seem to find anything worth while. Seems like installing Entware-ng won't be a problem.... but after doing some googling, I've found next to nothing valuable in terms of installing a chrooted debian instance.

You could always install Plex on an inexpensive Raspberry Pi. There are plenty of how-to tutorials out there and it's a lot less frustrating. _________________ Segment 1 XR700 10Gb LAN, 1Gb WAN ISP BS
