It's been a while since I've been able to upgrade my Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH via web interface. It always resets the router and puts it into a infinite boot loop. I was able to upgrade it only via TFTP and that is pretty inconvenient. So this time I tried to upgrade it via SSH by downloading the firmware file to the routers's external storage (USB Flash Drive) and then upgrading it via the command:
Code:
write /mnt/sda1/wzr-hp-g300nh-dd-wrt-webupgrade-MULTI.bin linux
when I'm on the terminal it closes the connection before giving me any messages, so I tried running the same command again vie the Adminstration>Commands web interface. It gives me the following message:
Code:
freeram=[5730304] bufferram=[3518464]
The free memory is not enough, writing image per 131072 bytes.
write=[131072]
write block [0] at [0x00000000]
After rebooting it falls into the same infinite boot loop pattern. I'm not sure if the web interface procedure mimics this one. So now I'm going to try to recover it via TFTP.
EDIT: Recovered with TFTP to Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r30880 std (11/14/16).
EDIT2: I used to be able to set DHCP Forwarder on the Setup page of my bridge routers to my gateway router's address. Now whenever I try to change it it reverts to 0.0.0.0.
I have exactly the same problem.
I was able to web upgrade the 28211 version, so tried 30880 version and it failed. TFTP saved my day, but its annoying to use TFTP everytime there is new version..
For your information we sell this unit and have diagnosed this suspected problem... which is a partial problem...
*** Note 1 ***
This router does not restart on its own with upgrades.
It uses The Large Community Builds and Can Take up to 14 Minutes to flash. It is stupid slow. We have watched it on the serial cable. It flashes at 2 Megabytes a minute. The DDWRT image is almost 29 Megs now for this router. Do the math.
For extra security on the flashes, after you flash, wait a.full 18 minutes after pressing the button. Then reset the router. YES people this routers intenal memory for flashing was not originally designed for 29 Megabyte files.
Your welcome.
Whenever I try to update it via the web interface it automatically restarts the router before the flashing process is complete. Then it falls into the boot loop state. I don't press any buttons to restart the router. _________________ [ATHEROS] ------------> Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH [A0 D0] --> DD-WRT v3.0-r36645 std (08/19/18) - (AP)

FULL WEEK UPDATE:
Seems others are not having the luck with this build that I am. Speed in my area is limited to 25 mbps. However I now consistently get about 28-29. With #27506 it was about 25-26. Both routers are set to auto reboot at 6:00 am everyday but TX - RX packets are normally about 7 figures by late evening with NO errors. Daily use is about 16 hrs. of full time streaming + internet and VoIP phone. Like I said this build ROCKS for me !

"myself, would prefer to address any underlying issues"
I agree, and hope at some point to be able to do that myself but I`m not there yet. However I`d be willing to go a week without reboots if it will further the cause. I don`t expect the results would be much different.
ROUTER: TP-Link TL-WR1043ND v.2.1
FIRMWARE: DD-WRT v3.0-r30880 std (11-14-16)
KERNEL: Linux 3.18.42 #2675 Mon Nov 14 07:09:16 CET 2016 mips
STATUS: Unstable
RESET: No
ERRORS:
-flashed r30880 over TP-Link firmware,first factory to dd-wrt then tp-link tl-wr1043nd v.2.x firmwares,
-did an "erase nvram"
-started to configure it,everything went ok.
Now,under moderate load on wireless it failed, like someone turned off the radio part, had to power cycle the router to have wireless signal again.
On wired side, seems that it can't go over 10MB/s torrent downloads.I have 300Mbps download/150Mbps upload plan from ISP,also router can do about 240Mbps NAT without the Hardware NAT enabled (dd-wrt can't make use of Hardware NAT)
Why I'm thinking it's firmware fault? Well,I also flashed r29837 and with this firmware had no wireless drops and torrent download goes up to almost 20MB/s.
Some could say "Then stick with r29837..."
Well,I would stick with it,if there was printer support embedded in r29837,tryed to install that little print server "p910nd" but without success.
In r30880 print server is just Plug'n'Play.

Posted: Wed Dec 07, 2016 19:10 Post subject: WZR-600DHP limited to 20MHz channel width in 5GHz band
Router: WZR-600DHP (WZR-HP-AG300H)
Firmware: 30880, 30826
Kernel: Linux 3.10.104
Status: OK
Reset: No
Errors: 5GHz band radio will only operate if channel width of 20MHz is selected. This occurred first in r30826 and continues in r30880.
Router: ASUS RT-N66U
Firmware: v3.0-r30880
Upgraged from k2.4 kong ac (2014)
Kernel Version Linux 3.10.104 #14796 Mon Nov 14 17:27:21 CET 2016 mips
2.4: OK "NG-Mixed, Channel 11, Width 20, WPA Personal SSID Broadcast: Disabled
5: BAD "NA-Mixed, Channel 153, Width HT40, Upper WPA2 Personal" SSID Broadcast: Disabled
It appears that I have to Enable the SSID Broadcast on the 5ghz radio to use the 5ghz. Having it disabled results in devices saying "Out of Range". I still have the 2.4 ssid broadcast disabled and it's working just fine. I have tried other settings on the 5ghz and I can not get any connection until I broadcast the ssid.
Yes, I have done all the nvram erase, reboots, clear, re-enter stuff. My previous 2.4 with ssid broadcast disabled worked fine for both radios _________________ Netgear R7800: DD-WRT v3.0-r47822 std (12/09/21)
