Hello guys, I bought the TrendNet router TEW-818DRU since its DD-WRT compatible and it was on sale. I needed to control bandwidth usage and access security on my home network. DD-wrt was the only solution after hours and days of web search.
however, i got the router and started bashing through the installation page and the peacock post, i couldn't get things together due to the following:
-on the Router database page I found only 1 file "TEW-818DRU v1 Firmware: Webflash image" where most router have two or more files.
-the 30-30-30 recovery method didn't work here, tried several times.
-couldn't find anyone posting guides or tutorials regarding this router
Am I missing something? is this webflash file the only needed file for this router?
30/30/30 is not necessary. It could be if you have the latest trendnet firmware on it, that they are preventing the flashing of third party firmware due to fcc regulations. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.
ok guys, so i flashed the router with this file "ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2016/11-14-2016-r30880/trendnet-818DRU/" provided with many thanks by "Malachi".
everything seems to be in order with exception of the following:
-First, the 2.4G light is off in spite of the wireless being active and able to connect to it.
-Second, the usb light is always on in spite of having nothing connected to it.
-Third, and this is the major issue, I am connecting it to another 4G router and want to use this new DD-WRT router as my main router in order to control bandwidth. Even though I am selecting the DHCP (Automatic) option in the WAN section, it does not seem to connect to the net. It doesn't need to provide any username or anything, just route the internet connection coming through the WAN port.

I also had success getting to the r33006 version. But the lights are still not working properly as wael111 described. I have two questions:
1) Is the issue with lights not working properly indicative of a more serious operational problem? It's not a show stopper for me if the invalid lights are not indications of some other more serious issue.
2) I haven't done anything except load the r33006 firmware and notice the front-panel lights yet. I'll be happy to post my experiences/observations with the TEW-818dru unit, but I really do not know how to put it through its paces to find out what functions properly and what does not. Is there some place that I can learn more about testing router function in general? And more specifically, a guide for testing DD-WRT function?

No, generally a blinking power light would be bad, but light operation varies -widely- by model. There may be some commands to get them working; or at least toggle them on, but you'd have to search to see if that is possible. _________________ #NAT/SFE/CTF: limited speed w/ DD#Repeater issues#DD-WRT info: FAQ, Builds, Types, Modes, Changes, Demo#
