Just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction with this... A few weeks someone mentioned on the forum that Kong has softether vpn integrated in his builds. If I recall correctly in the same post (or another) Kong said after we get the server working all we need to do then is export out the configuration out of server software and copy and paste it into the softether vpn tab on dd-wrt.

I setup two test computers, one computer running the softether vpn server and another computer running the softether vpn client software. After numerous attempts I was finally able to connect the softether client to the server only after finding a youtube video. However the video had no support for dd-wrt and I was only able to connect with the LAN with a 192.168.1.xxx address which is the dhcp address of the pc running the Softether Server.

I figured it wasn't going to work but I then copied the configuration to the dd-wrt tab I edited the Softether client test system with my public IP and tried to connect from the WAN side but was unable to connect. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

I was able to configure using the "SoftEther VPN Server Manager". It was a pretty easy GUI to follow.

It all works fine until I reboot the router. Then all VPN settings go away and the setup password goes to default.

Paste the configuration into the Configuration Field in the GUI.

ok. Tried that. When I copied and pasted the text, then saved it, the "tabs" at the beginning of the lines showed up as some characters. I removed the characters. Saved, and applied, and rebooted. The VPN server responds but will not accept the password.

I used all of the same settings I successfully used the server manager directly.

Any ideas?

Unless I'm 100% wrong looking at a few other threads this was just suppose to be a matter of exporting the configuration file out of the server software into the dd-wrt Softether vpn server field.

so again works great with the server & client software but not so good with dd-wrt and the exported config. I like to know it anyone actually has it working with dd-wrt?

Yes. It works fine with the server config software connected to the ddwrt router, then connected via the client. This works until a reboot. After that, when I try to connect it returns:

Error (Error Code 51):
The user's password used to connect was blank so the connection from remote is prohibited. Blank password can be allowed only to connections from the VPN Server's localhost (127.0.0.1).

As if it lost all settings after reboot.

Paste the config into a text editor first and remove all tab characters. Then paste into the config.

I just tried that. It seems to work until a reboot. It seems as if it ignores any config files on boot and goes to default settings.

Nicely done, you did a excellent job! However my goal was to try and get SoftEther VPN working within dd-wrt. The Kong builds have SoftEther VPN integrated.

I have followed the tutorial, but all settings will be gone once I restart my router. Any suggestions on that?

Thanks, this is terrific; much appreciated. I have followed the guide and is really very straightforward.

One thing though: I cannot connect using either of Win7 and iphone client. Some research shows that it's probably that the client cannot get an IP address from the vpn server. All my internal devices get their IP address from the router and DHCP with no problem.

1. Where is the softether log in dd-wrt?
2. Any ideas on the client not being able to obtain an IP address?

Nicely done! I gave up on getting it work with dd-wrt months and went with a Raspberry Pi as the ovpn server. Prior to that I did get SoftEther to work with a pc as the SoftEther server but that was pointless. I’ll give your instructions a try sometime next week, again you did an outstanding job!!!!
