Hi all,

I'm about to install DD-WRT on my second Netgear R6300V1. The first one I tried to flash the latest DD-WRT firmware on it completely bricked it with a constand amber light and I could not even unbrick it using the JTAG method using a USB-TTL adapter.

Do I need to downgrad the CFE to a particular version before flashing it with either Kong or DD-WRT firmware? Which dd-wrt firmware is the latest and safe version for this model?

Thanks.

Anyone Help!

I could flash it with K2.6 but anything higher (eg K3.0) would brick it Sad

I do not own that model but the wiki is here: https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Netgear_R6300

K2.6 builds are usualy faster zo stick with that

Thanks for your replay.

I followed that wiki and every other method but always ended up with a bricked router. I'm curious to know how other people could upgrade it to K3.0.

I tried every firmware on the wiki too with the same result, amber light. Bootlog says something is wrong with memory config and constantly reboots, looks like flash on my r6300v1 firmware is only 16MB and dd-wrt firmwares are 18MB+ but no one has confirmed that.

I can restore to oem firmware by using serial cable and breaking into CFE and tftp flashing.

You mention that you can flash a K2.6 version? Which one did you use?

I had the exact same problem Sad

These 2 firmwares work with no issues:

dd-wrt.v24-K26_R6300_19-10-2012.chk
tomato-Netgear-R6300V1_RT-AC6x--138-AIO-64K.chk

The Tomato firmware is ~22MB so the 16MB is not true.

How did you install K3.0 build? Please tell us how you did it step by step?

I followed wiki and used initial flash file linked there:

I followed the instructions in that link and bricked the router so many times and had to JTAG it back to life Sad

How long did you wait for the router to reboot after flashing?

I suspect the CFE version is different on the troubled router. Does anyone have an earlier version than 1.0.2?

I also have CFE v1.0.2
Build Date: Wed Apr 25 16:29:10 CST 2012

After some searching I found the K26 and tomato builds that wildwild was referring to and I tried both and they work fine, disregard my comment on memory size. I actually didnt know where to find the K26 or tomato build, the wiki doesnt mention them unfortunately.

I dove a bit in the bootlog of the failed flashing of Kong's build and the K3 build and notice that in both cases the boot sequence fails to mount root for whatever reason...

Code:
No filesystem could mount root, tried:  squashfs
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(31,5)

Not jtag, serial recovery.

Hopefully, Kong or some Guru would be able to shed some light on why K3.x would not boot Smile

Is there a small K3.x build for the initial flash (8M) just to get the K3.x firmware on?
