yep you'd need router with 8MB or more flash ram
and better router CPU is also mandatory.....
the router you have is for very basic needs..
Also im unaware if DD-WRT supports Coovachilli
i can see in the menu only
Hotspotsystem
wifidog
chillyspot
but i've never used it, do keep in mind all DD-WRT builds are
"beta" stage so you have to investigate which is working and
operational regarding hotspot or chilli or so..

hmmm, i don't know if it will working or not but for best results as i said you'd need a better router... i just checked http://svn.dd-wrt.com/changeset/31328 and it seems
covachilly is supported and BS just made a fix for it, so it
suppose to be working on the next build that will poped out
who know's when, and someone has to test that option to confirm, however as i said i don't know who uses it and i haven't seen any reports on the build treads regarding covachilly so far...so you are on your own about testing it..
You can post on the current build treads about it and wait for an answer if anyone is using it and wants to share experience.... _________________ Atheros

I discovered a good unit ( Athros based slightly different to the one you were using but the WR1043 ( v1.x) I had success with the basic build 21061.
I also experimented with other builds to try and get the captive portal to obey rate limits and found beta build build 25948 ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2015/01-17-2015-r25948/
This was in m y particular set-up for the wr1043nd v 1.x very stable.
I noted however the last build to work in my particular environment was 26081.
Some basics :
Setup -> Network Setup -> Router IP -> Local IP Address : 10.20.30.40 (for example)
Setup -> Network Setup -> Router IP -> Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
Setup -> Network Address Server Settings (DHCP) -> Disabled
Services -> DNSMasq -> Disabled

i would ve stay away from WR1043 ( v1.x)
first its very old and buggy
second its CPU is very slow
third your configuration is very poor with lack of basic services
forth using old builds its not very secure and leads to errors or security flaws... _________________ Atheros
