Hello, I am running my VPN on the linksys 2500 V3 which works however the speed for it is terrible. I am getting about 5mbps download when I should be getting around 50mbps. I guessed that it would be because of the router not being very powerful, is that the case? I'm using OpenVPN, would it help if I were to use a different way of having a VPN i.e. PPTP? Any help would be appreciated! Thank You!

Without QOS and with AES 128 encryption you should be able to get 6-7Mb/s max. regardless if you are using PPTP

If you want more you have to invest in a more powerful router Sad

You can check whether the CPU is causing the bottleneck by using the "top" command from the command line or go to the router control panel and watch the load average while testing the VPN connection. A load average under 1.0 indicates that you have another issue (not CPU performance).

An additional idea: what is the current upload speed of your internet connection? Remember: if you use your VPN from outside (say an internet cafe), the download link on the client side is the upload on the server (your router) side...
