I'd like to flash DD-WRT on this router if it's not too difficult. I was able to flash my Linksys WRT1900ACS with Kong's build and it was super easy. Thanks!

AFAIK Mr Kong does not support the WNDR3700v2.
But you can get official dd-wrt builds here
ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/

Probably the best build for that router is 30880 which is also noted in its install wiki

Thanks very much for the reply. So after following the install steps on that page above to install v30880, I will be able to wirelessly flash any subsequent newer versions of dd-wrt as needed? Also, which version do I flash, NA, WW or the Web Flash BIN?

My whole reason for flashing dd-wrt is to hopefully improve the radio range for each band vs. stock firmware.

Appreciate the help!

yeahuh that's right. Use the .img for first flash then just use the .bin file for your router changing from dd-wrt to different dd-wrt build.
I encourage you to read thru new build threads before installing on that router --- might find some useful info.
Latest public release (r31277) 'new build thread in this forum' is here -

EDIT:
My pumpkin just now processed all I read in your comments.... regarding,
"wirelessly flash any subsequent newer"
Most of us have installed different types of 3rd party firmware wirelessly to a router ...but that is not the preferred method, for many reasons.
You should have a wired connection to the device you are attempting to update Smile

NA = North America
WW = Worldwide ...e.g. if your router made for European countries.

Thanks for all the help! One more question, is there a reason why I shouldn't install the latest release?

Thanks, that's enough for me to stick with the version you recommended.

So I bricked the router. Since it had Netgear firmware version 1.0.0.14 instead of 1.0.0.12 installed, flashing dd-wrt bricks the router thanks to some check Netgear added.

I can't even get it to come up to the point where I can tftp to it. Argh!

I finally got the router un-bricked and I'm still having issues installing the 30880 release.

What works:
1) I can flash the OEM FW v1.0.0.12
2) From there I can webflash w/cable dd-wrt /2011/06-14-11-r17201/netgear-wndr3700v2/
3) Once that is installed I can't webflash or TFTP 30880. It just gets stuck in a loop.

Hello, maybe this has something to do with firmware size... You can for instance try to first install beta r29193, which is one of the lasts 8MB builds, and then jump (dd-wrt webflash) to r31571, which is a 14MB build.

Pay attention to use a direct connection (just a RJ45 cable) from PC to router. Run webflash upgrade and wait for firmware upgrade process to complete, which should last about 200 seconds or so for the big one.

I did it (dd-wrt webflash upgrade) yesterday with two WNDR3700v2 routers in DHCP server mode...

Happy? Very Happy

I may be reading your post wrong, but just in case:

When you are on Netgear stock firmware you need to downgrade (you've done that I can see).
Then when moving from stock to dd-wrt you need to use the factory image.

Once that is working, you can use the webflash images to upgrade to a newer/older dd-wrt firmware.

Of note: I had a lot of troubles with the 30808 and later builds (random reboots, 40hz not working, 5ghz not starting, connection to 2.4 with a certain android phone crashing the router).
I've down graded to r30016 and it's been very stable, with all of those issues gone.
There have been a few releases since the last I tried, but if you are seeing issues you could try that one (I didn't run through them to see where it starting going pear shaped, so there will be some newer that are fine I'm sure, i.e. after 30016 but before 30808).
