Hi,
First wanted to say thanks for a great build!
I bought 3 of these routers used and on sale at about 15bux each on Amazon and was hoping they would be the v4 the router database says is needed to run ddwrt.
Well, no such luck. I got 3 v1 units...
As cheap as they were, I figured it was worth the chance of bricking one of these out -- and it turns out the build posted for WNDR4300v4 works seamlessly on the v1 units.
So seamlessly, in fact, I have one running as a standard base router, with wired and wireless clients, one running as a transparent bridge (client bridge mode, doing the job of an expensive wireless bridge for an Xbox with only wired network connection) and one running as a stand alone access point..
All 3 applications working flawlessly..
Please revise the WNDR4300 page to say that the build will work on v1 hardware too.
Thanks again for a great build!
So easy I even flashed and configed these things from my cell phone via wifi! :o)
Well, ok, I did use my laptop and a wired connection to set the client bridge mode on that unit -- that mode does kinda of turn off the ability to connect directly to the router wirelessly.... :o) |

The Router Database page on dd-wrt: http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database is known to be outdated and inaccurate in some cases, so don't use it. It is better to check the Supported Devices List wiki: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices
WNDR4300 has only 2 versions, namely v1 and v2 and only v1 is supported. The file that you downloaded is actually for v1 and that is why it works on your routers.
FYI, the place to download dd-wrt firmware is: http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/other-downloads and located in the folder betas. Just check for the build that is specific to your router.
Your router use Atheros so if you have further questions on WNDR4300, you should post them on the Atheros sub-forum. |
