distributed as binary /usr/sbin/nas - anyone know why?

when browsing through dd-wrt sources, I noticed that nas is distributed as binary ( /usr/sbin/nas ).

http://svn.dd-wrt.com/browser/src/router/nas

any one know why is this closed source?

couldn't find any info on the forum.
google just found an alternative source from tomato:
